I just returned a month ago from a double lamenectomy at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore performed by Dr. George Jallo. I can't say enough about his work. I am a Canadian and this is my second meeting with myxopapillary ependymomas. My Canadian neurosurgeon and oncologists told me that they could not and would not attempt to cure me and that I could expect to live another 10 years with alot of pain and eventually death from a brain tumor. Though this website my family and I researched and found Dr. Jallo. He was willing to review my case without even seeing me and when I did fly out to meet with him he assured me that he could take the tumors out. On Jan 9th, 2009 that is just what he did. I do have some nerve damage to my left leg that is getting better everyday and if I walk slowly my gait is pretty much normal. Dr. Jallo answered all of my e-mails promptly and visited me everyday in the hospital. In my and my family's opinion he is a hero.

Tammy, Praise God Tammy for finding an excellent surgeon and excellent results. I am so happy for you. Dr Jallo has many praises on this board. Are you doing PT yet? Where was the site of you surgery? How is your pain? Thanks for the good report. Betty

I also had my surgery with Dr. Jallo (01-25-10). I had a similar experience as Tammy - and many other people on this site - in that my first neurosurgeon provided little hope. Notice that both Tammy and I have posted comments soon after our surgeries. I would echo everything Tammy said. Dr. Jallo is great.

Stefanro69,
Another USA NS is in Luzern, Switzerland (sp) -Dr. Karl Kothauber. Dr. Kothbauber was under the late Dr. Fred Esptein who was the doctor that made the instrument to take out spinal cord tumors. Dr. Jallo and Dr. Kothbauber work together in New York City.
Email address I have is kothbauer@ksl.ch I hope this will help.

I, too, cannot sing enough praises of Dr. Jallo. He recently removed a huge astrocytoma from inside my spinal cord. I live in Tennessee, and he agreed to see my case when other surgeons wanted to pursue invasive and piddly methods of treatment. He is patient, kind, and laughed at my stupid painkiller-addled jokes. He is a great surgeon but, more importantly, a great man.

Ok, so it came back again and Dr. Jallo performed surgery again in Sept 2010. He was awesome again. I can still walk but not fast and not without a cane....hopefully with more rehab that will improve. Someone asked me the cost of being from out of country...it is about $100,000 CAD per surgery/hospital stay.
