Hi Everyone...yesterday was not the best day for me. I lost my job of 23 years. This was my day job, the factory one. Due to a down turn in orders and such, they let 7 of us go. And all of us had a "disability" of one kind or another. Can anyone prove why this happened the way it did? No, I don't think any of us would want to even waste the energy on it. How could you ever explain that someone who had been there from the day the company opened..me...would be the first person to go? There is the possibility that we can be called back in January. I don't expect it, but I will never say never because I never want to burn a bridge. I have already filed for my unemployment, and will just wait for my upcoming surgery. And I still have my weekend job. But it does hurt just a bit.
I am beginning to not like October. It was 21 years ago yesterday that my Dad died. The day before my birthday. And it was just last year in October that breast cancer made an appearance at my door. Now we have a job termination. I think maybe next year I will take October out of all the calenders I have.

Oh Cindylee, I am so sorry that you lost your job, especially since you have been there so long. I got laid off from a really good job about two years ago and at the time it seemed like the end of the world. I remember how terrible it felt. You figure if you work hard and do a good job everything will be okay. I found another job that I liked a lot more and the atmosphere at my new workplace was much more positive. I worked there until I got sick and my new teammates were very supportive. I'm sure you won't be long finding another job as you are a very loyal employee, a change can be good sometimes and you might like your new job a lot more. Stay strong, I'll be thinking of you.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Shortly after my surgery I had to leave a job I had been working at for almost ten years. I could only imagine how it would feel after working somewhere for over 20! All I can say is when you are up to it dig in and look for something else and you may even find something that you like better. I have but yet again we have taken a 30,000 pay cut and it is starting to hurt! Things have to start getting better (that is what I keep saying). Right now be thankfully for the unemployment and get through everything you need to health wise and then something will come along. Even with the pay cut I am a happier person because of the job change. I am now my own boss and I love being there to help my clients and I know they applicate me. I can slow down when my body tells me to and that is a good thing. I have never missed a day of work due to pain now that I am in charge of my own hours. Honestly I do need to build up my business but it will come in time I am sure.
Take care, Beth

Sorry to hear about your lost job. Suprisingly, you do have a good attitude towards this! Especially about burning bridges etc... I think you will do ok. Please don't think October is bad. I know, it's easy for me to say, but, I think it's just the way things happen and the economy the way it is. I do know one thing though, you have many folks here that think about you, and care to listen. It does hurt, but we're here for you!

Cindy, I am sorry that you lost your job. Yeah, after being there so long you wonder why. But because of these economic nightmares they might of had to let people go that were earning the most money or had more benefits. My husband has been with his company since the beginning also (35 years!) and is expecting his print shop to close. He has no college education and doesn't expect to be employable. That's why he is looking into over-the-road truck driving and that is what depresses me most. I will be totally alone to handle this big 2 floor house (and it's not easy for me to get upstairs and we can't afford to sell). DON'T TEAR OCTOBER OFF THE CALENDAR- YOU WERE BORN IN THIS MOHTH- SO WAS !!!! AND LINDA STOPHEL. WHEN IS YOUR BIRTHDAY? Hey, don't you have an operation coming up? When is it? Just concentrate on that and take one day at a time. Barb

Thanks guys for all the encouragement!!! I think for awhile I will just concentrate on doing nothing but collect my unemployment. It has been years since I had time to just do as little as possible. Maybe this is what I am supposed to be doing right now. It will give me a chance to rest up for the next surgery, and no I don't have that date yet. And Barb my birthday was Saturday. When is yours and Linda's......Cindy
