well the or called to ask pre op stuff for my surgery tomorrow. I was like my surgery is Friday. After many phone calls it appears that my surgery is in fact tomorrow am, it was changed and I was not notified. So now I am waiting for the inlaws to drive their 4 hours to watch the kids then we will drive our 4 hours to Baltimore. What is going on with this surgery? It keeps getting changed. If the OR never called I would have not shown up for surgery. ARGH!!! I guess Dr. Jallo has asked someone else to assist on this surgery and he can only operate tomorrow. I am still waiting to find out who this other doctor is and what it is he will be doing. This is sooo a test of my patience and faith. Well I am off to mow the yard. Thanks for letting me unload.

Robby: I would be unloading on Jallo if I were you. He needs to know that this kind of thing is upsetting to you. Maybe he can at least provide a decent explanation. Joel

Robby.... Joel is right unload on Jallo. If it were I.... I would friggin cancel this thing. Who knows if they scheduled the OR cleaning team to mop things up after the last surgery??? No talent clowns over there. This is not like going to the corner store for a soda pop... this is a big tent type of deal. Have Jallo give you a reasonable explanation as to why he has notta clue that he is working on you tomorrow. Has he had time to really take a look at the films and talk tactics with his team.... these are all unique procedures.... it sounds like the old college try has not yet occurred on your behalf. CANCEL.... grab you best fishing rod and go play in one of the many beautiful rivers throughout your state.... this will give the folks at Hopkins another chance to get it right. STAY COOL IT"LL ALL WORK OUT............Throeback.........

I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude, but cancel a surgery over scheduling conflicts? I agree to ask questions, very direct and specific questions; however, seeing Dr. Jallo in person, hearing him speak about our issues and seeing the dedication he displays to our diagnosis leads me to believe to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm sorry if your personal experiences have been negative following a surgery of this caliber; however compare them to the what ifs. I have given up a huge amount for this thing that hibernates within my spine and can grow again if it chooses, because it has already shown me that it can; however, the other side of it is far bleaker. I have given my career, the majority of my legs and my independance; but it has not taken my spirit, my drive, my mind, my hope and time with child and family. I am thankful for the little things, because in the whole scheme of life that is all that matters.

If you don't mind being rude to a new member thats fine. I never really get amped about what others think, say, feel, or serve up my way. If you disagreed with me you had the option of sending me a private message and summarizing your misgivings away from the public eye of this forum. The above was not in good taste. I have indeed determined you are probably a much better person than I so I will now side with you. I think Robby should run his little ass crazy to J Hopkins regardless of the huge inconvenience this is causing his family He should scramble regardless of the many red flags sent up. He should hit the highway and not look back because a doctor has a looked at films of the hundreds of potential patients/paying customers this site has sent his way. Go on now son don't cause waves for our anointed one.
I think if anything Hopkins should know this site has been buttering the bread of their Neurology Dept. for a long time now and make a better effort not to muck things up for our comrades in cords. Yes I was.... and am still VERY troubled over this whole matter, it shows a lack of compassion for the patient as a whole feeling being...... we are not just numbers with dollar bill signs stamped on our vertebra's. At the very least, I know that Robby is missing a few extra days of very precious time with his young children.... on that alone I would have canceled. Dr. Jallo being the type of person I think I understand him to be would have surely of been sensitive to this and looked for a better day to operate based on Robby's needs.
I am in the young mans corner. As I am in yours.... and all I share this awful illness with. Please PM next time... thanks
Lets all say a prayer for Robby.

I will agree that Dr. Jallo needs to be aware that an error occurred. I went to a big University Hospital here in St. Louis and even though the surgery went well and the ICU care when I got onto the neurofloor it was horrible. I could not get a nurse when I needed one or assistance. It was a good thing I had family with me the whole time.
As Patient's we have a right to complain and they doctors and hospitals should listen. Will it do any good? I think that depends on the doctor and the Health system.
Good Luck Robby! We are pulling for you.

I agree with Tony. We need to let health care providers know when they miss the mark. My guess would be that Dr Jallo's office probably strives to provide a better service than that. I work at a large medical center, I know how it goes. It was someone's job to call Robby and it just got missed, for whatever reason human's have for messing up. That is not meant to excuse it. It's just what happens. I think we as patients can let them know the hardship and heartache things like that cause, so that hopefully they can institute ways to prevent it from happening to someone else in the future. If they don't know where the glitches happen, they can't fix them. No one else should ever have this happen to them. I can't imagine how shocking it must have been, oh yeah-your surgery is tomorrow...On the upside, it would have cut off the worrying. If Rob is like me, that would have filled every waking hour waiting for surgery. I know Robby's somewhere in the hospital now, I'm saying a prayer for him. Susan
