I know it is probably nothing to worry about but any thoughts does it make a difference to wait 2 1/2 weeks for surgery ?
I had surgery scheduled on 12/14 but after my second opinion I decided to go with different hospital and surgeon. The second surgeon cannot perform until 01/03...
Is this a big deal ?
Thanks

I think that's a question for your new surgeon of choice. Do let us know what they say.

The second opinion doc when I asked said waiting would not matter...I can't help but be scared and second quessing myself...
Going with 2nd doc, the hospital is great and I feel more comfortable there. This doc also strictly does the spine and has interest in spinal tumors.
I just don't know but I have already cancelled first surgery...
I will let u know how I make out.. Thank you

I think it's normal to be scared and to second guess, especially where waiting is involved. I also think it can be hard to trust a doc you've just met once, when it comes to feeling comfortable with such an important decision. Do you feel powerless to do something to help yourself while waiting for the surgery? I'll bet you'll be really glad to have a hospital you feel comfortable in. Maybe you could visit the hospital a few more times while you wait. I think some people feel worse visiting a hospital, but for me it helps. I like familiarity. Maybe take your friends/relatives there and help them learn their way around so that it's not all new when you're there and they're busy trying to figure out how to help you.

I live a bit far from hospital...Mass General in boston I live about 2 hrs away so I probably won't go back until day of surgery. My family lives closer to Boston. I just need to tell myself I have made the right decision..my leg has been hurting me a bit more lately maybe because I know the reason for the pain...It sure is scary and something I never thought I would have to deal with. ( mine is L1-L2 intradural extramedullary ). The plus is most of these are benign...and hopefully this is the case.... Thank God for this site...It sure has helped me out very much... Thank you for your responses...I really appreciate it...

If your tumor isn't a fast grower, then waiting isn't a big deal. most, and I stress most - not all, SCTs are slow growing. a week and a half is probably not going to see a big increase in your tumor size and your symptoms, if any.

This. Most people live with their tumors for years and years before finally having them treated. I can't see how 2.5 more weeks would change anything, especially if your NS said so.

have you had more than one MRI? If so was their a difference in size? I wouldn't worry too much. The doctor has emergency surgery options if he thought that was necessary. I had surgery cancelled and postponed twice for second opinions and more testing. It did make me nervous though. Good luck to you!

Hi thank you for the reply..
I sent my doc an email to just say if for some strange reason you have a cancellation I would be willing to have surgery if he could fit it in...and amazingly he said he did have a cancellation and could do surgery 12/16.
So that is the plan now...I'm scared to death for surgery....but I know I need to get this out before it causes more symptoms....so scared ...
Anyway thanks to everyone for input....I will let you know how I make out....
Merry Xmas and happy holidays to all....

I'm sending you a hug. You have put your trust in the best surgeon you can find. Take care of yourself: focus on staying sane, then on getting better. Don't expect too much of yourself, but work slowly toward your after-surgery goals. And get yourself into a good rehab program after surgery, if that's what it takes.
I'll be waiting to hear your updates.
