Neurologist recommended Tramadol for me too. I have been on 1800 mg of ibuprofen. As I seem to be healing from radiation therapy I seem to be getting more nerve sensation back, which has meant more pain. I've gotten to the point I'm going to have to do something for the pain or go to a wheelchair full time. So I tested the Tramadol last night, the difference was really amazing. He's got me on 50 mg nightly for now, and my regular ibuprofen during the day. Will see how it goes and report back.

Tramadol is going well, suggesting taking 50 mg 3x times a day and ibuprofen. Having liver and kidney tests and other blood tests run now to check and see how my body is handling it. It has helped a good bit so far. I was in walker in house and wheelchair outside. There is a small 1 inch step going out to garage, before I started the med I had started falling a lot from muscle weakness. After taking drug my legs are strengthening a bit and I'm not falling as bad. That's a good feeling at least. Bladder problems are actually better as well. I would curl up on the couch and just not be able to move from the pain. Still achy but during peak of med I'm on my feet more.
No major side effects, but I did have slight nausea problems with it at first. After about 2 weeks they have disappeared. It does make me sleepy sometimes. Sometimes the other way round and sometimes no effect.

Hi all, I'm now researching a herbal capsule called Kratom. I take Tramadol but after regular use I feel sick and it sometimes interferes with my breathing. I also take Codeine and paracetamol but if I take this regularly I get constipated... so I swap them around. Sometimes i just have a hot brandy and that has a most beneficial effect.

I have no personal experience with kratom, but have know a few ppl who use it, for different reasons. it, like many other pain tabs has the tendency to be habit forming/addictive. also be sure to check out for any interaction with other meds you using.
no harm done in trying it to see if it works, but deffo check for any negative interaction with other meds.

Hi all
I take tramadol and gabapentin 3 times daily. I started Tramadol about 6 weeks ago upon the recommendation of my pain management consultant. I was on slow release morphine prior to that. The morphine was knocking me about a bit and I found it difficult to function properly as it was making me feel like I had a hangover all of the time! It did not really touch the pain either. I was not keen to increase the dose or even keep taking opiates as I felt that was the thin end of the wedge. Since being on Tramadol my pain is better controlled. However I do have overwhelming fatigue and have to stay in bed at least a couple of dats a week. I feel so tired I literally cannot walk as I don't have the energy. It is quite unpleasant, but realistically all the drugs that are strong enough to manage our pain will have side effects. One of my issues with morphine was dealing with breakthrough pain, but with tramadol I have the option to take an extra dose which makes me feel I am in control.

I recommend Kratom. For me it has no side effects and 2 tabs have an effect like Tramadol but WHOLESOME because this is a herb and alkaloid, not opioid. I still take tramadol very occasionally, and co codamol sometimes one tab, usually at night. I like variety. I'm also taking 300 mg of magnesium and this has had a magic effect on the muscle cramps in my leg, also a beneficial effect on regularity so no constipation with codeine. I hope some of this may be of help, or interest, or just amusement. Oh, and I have completely stopped drinking wine and brandy and stuff as it definitely makes me feel ill, so now I live a pure life. Comparatively.

I'll look up Kratom. I'm on Tram 50mg 3x daily. I'm trying to keep it and the pain meds to more of a minimum. I swear I have some kind of swelling issue. As evident by complete bladder control failure and spinal stability weakness without a NSAID. The more anti inflam the better. However, not sure how much of it is healing after radiation. Radiation with a full tumor has been a nightmare. How hard was it to make the switch to Kratom? The only other things I'm on are NSAID and dopamine. Will have to look and see how those work together.
