Isn't the dura kind of like the "sheath" surrounding the cord itself? My Dr. is pretty confident that my tumor in cervical isn't malignant, and information I have found supports that statement.
From wiki:
The spinal cord is protected by three layers of tissue, called spinal meninges, that surround the canal. The dura mater is the outermost layer, and it forms a tough protective coating.

Dr. Jallo has predicted a lot of things to me and he hasn't been wrong yet. He also told me less than 5% chance of recurrence, and I believe it. And if I am the unlucky person out of 20 that has a recurrence, I'm not too worried because Dr. Jallo can take care of it again.

I think you were looking for recurrence rates for brain ependymomas. Those in the brain are much more likely to recur.

to paula, if yr tumor is big, it can make what we call lumbar myelopathy which is main cause of dizziness. Please try to educate yr doc.
