There are 2 neurosurgical groups in Austin, TX. Trust me, if you are in the Austin area, you will want to go see Dr. Mark Burnett at NeuroTexas at St. Davids. He is the best Doc in the area. www.neurotexas.net/I initially went to the other group which is housed at Brackenridge. Dr. Humell met with me for 15min and told me I would most likely be a quad after the surgery. He went on to say that he would be very embarrassed if he went in and then found out is was MS - I certainly didn't want to "embarrass" him, I mean, my life was falling apart. Dr. Mark Burnett spent an hour with me, drew pictures, talked about the surgery and was convinced I would walk out of the hospital unless things went bad for some reason and he had no expectation that they would. I had surgery on March 4th, 2009. I walked out of the hospital 6 days later. In addition, he, and the other docs in the neurotexas group, are Barrow trained. You can check out the barrow institute here: www.thebarrow.org/index.htmDr. Burnett has extensive experience removing spinal cord tumors, he has removed at least 4 more since my surgery which was March 2009 and it is now Sept 2009. I asked him how many of these he had experience removing, a question everyone should ask their neuro-surgeon, and he told me he had removed quite a few. I told him that my research indicates that these are rare tumors and he said, statistically "yes, but it's what I do all day, so, they really aren't rare from my perspective." Go see Dr. Burnett, you won't be sorry. He cares about his patients lives and you can tell it the moment he walks into the room. todd

How extensive was your tumor in your neck? I have an epenymoma c2-c7 and my Dr.'s have all told me dont touch it until your symptoms are so bad you are ready for a wheelchair because thats probably where you will be after surgery.I dont know how much more I can live with and think that there is someone out there that can help me.How large was your tumor and hoe entangled was it into the nerves?
