On December 7th, 2007 I was diagnosed w/ a Intramedullary Thoracic Ependymoma. Before the tumor was discovered I was unable to walk on my own anymore, i had a dropped left foot, no balance, and the tumor syrinx was compressing my spinal cord so much that it was also affected my bowel movements. When the neurologist that that ordered my MRI discovered the tumor and informed me about my situation, I was devastated, I had never heard of an Ependymoma and the first thought I had was "it's cancer". That's when I was introduced to Dr. Brara, he explained EVERYTHING very thoroughly, and made me feel more at ease when he informed me that he has written several publications on specifically this type of tumor. Dr. Brara was very nice and caring, I had surgery on December 8th, 2007, the tumor was completely removed and most of the syrinx came out as soon as the tumor was removed during surgery. By December 10th, 2007 I was already walking again w/ a Physical Therapist, I no longer had a dropped foot, I was in the hospital for 10 days. Today I am still tumor free and able to walk on my own again, I sometimes lose my balance slightly but am very grateful that Dr. Brara was the one that did my surgery.
