Hi all - good to see the posts on this new forum -
A question I had is what type of doctors are people consulting for pain (or if other type of health care providers, what type)?
I'm currently seeing a pain management specialist, an MD, which I wish I'd started doing years ago. It's a bit of a hassle having another doctor (I also see a neurooncologist for my follow up scans), but the pain management guy is a lot quicker to respond when I have medication issues, need refills, etc. I used to rely on my neurooncologist for all this stuff, and that was usually all right, but once during a pain emergency I couldn't reach her so it got me to rethink my strategy. I think this has worked better for me, but I am curious what other people are doing.
I'm also going to an acupuncturist and a massage therapist who has a separate certification in neuro-muscular therapy. All together, it's a pretty good team, though I do get frustrated with the amount of time and money it takes.
I live in a large urban area, so have pretty good access to all types of specialists - I'd also be curious how people in more rural areas, or in different countries, might also approach this issue differently than those in larger urban areas in the U.S.
Here's to a pain free tomorrow - Ida
