It's me again! Well, i'm going say i'm in NW Florida where the weather is pretty cold right now. It got down to 26 last night and for us Floridian we freeze when it gets in the 50's. It supposed to warm up in the 40's today and get in the 50's throughout the week. We have weird weather down here we go from being in the upper 60's down to the lower 20's in the same week. I know we shouldn't complain down this way because up north and out west they have it so much worse but you know when you get out of your comfort zone you can really tell it. Well on December 31, 2007 I made up my mind to get myself back to the park to walking. I have never been the exercise kind of person but my body needs it and so far I have really been sticking to it. I only got 4 days in last week out of 5 but I'm hoping to increase my walking next week and to do it 5 days. I do feel alots better when i'm walking. I was able to walk around the park on Friday three times without stopping and that was 1 1/2 mile. I find my walking time a time to think about my life what I want to be able to do and when I feel like stopping I think about the ones in the group that can't walk and how bad they wish they could so it keeps me going so I can feel like in a way i'm doing it for them even though I knows it not doing them any good but it keeping me motivated. For everyone in the group that feels like they will never be able to walk that far don't give up because I was that person to but with time, patience, determination I found out it does get better and now 13 1/2 years later it gets overwhelming to think where I was and what I can do now and i'm so thankful I never gave up. Well, that my checking in for today. Have a great week and never give up! Hugs to all. ~Linda

Linda-
Im with ya on the weather, Im in north FL myself and i dont know if it will break 50 or not today and the wind is blowing very hard here, so Im stuck inside pretty much. Not able to walk yet, but working on it. I do try to do other stuff like push ups and crunches, all the things my therapist told me to do.
Well thats all for now, not much new to report from here.
Stay warm!

Hey El, I notice on the old forum you had surgery at Shands by Dr. Kelly Foote. What a small world! I had my surgeries at Shands in 1994 by Dr. Richard G Fessler. After my first year I went for my yearly checkups and everytime I'd go there was a different doctor coming to the room before Dr. Fessler to see how I was doing and report back to him I can't remember what year it was but Dr. Foote was one of those doctors. I'll never forget the time he come in and said hi i'm Dr. Foote and my dad can be the comical kind of person and I just knew he was going say right foot or left foot but he didn't. Anyway, Dr. Foote look down at my shoes and said I can tell you take real good care of your shoes. I never told him they were brand new shoes that why they look good at the time. lol He was very nice. Glad to know he still at Shands. I thought i'd share that with you. Stay warm! ~Linda

I am doing good. I am bicycling indoors on the stationary bike but I have to say this cold St. Louis weather is really making the pain and spasms kick in. Come on Spring. How is everyone else doing these days?

Linda that is awesome about the walking. As usual, you continue to inspire as well as lead. I hope people will keep checking in! Weather in CA is warmer than most of the country, so shouldn't complain, but I'll gripe a little bit because it's very rainy and after a few days that gets old... Hang in there everyone, spring is on the way (except our southern hemisphere folks, I guess you deserve some warm weather too!)

Hi Linda!
Do you still remember me? My user name used to be ihhtt02, but that and my password don't seem to work for me anymore. I thought maybe I got the boot for not joining in enough! Just kidding!
I am really glad to hear that you are walking so well now. Am I right that you used to be in a wheelchair a few years ago? Gosh, it's been so long since I've checked in with the old gang! I went without a computer for so long, I just got out of the habit of checking in when this old thing did get fixed. I missed you all. I see that there are just so many new people in the group, it really breaks my heart, specially the children and their parents. I do keep our group in my prayers, even if I don't go online as much as before.
Remember that I called you and told you how I met a new friend from around the block, who was also an SCT survivor from over 30 years ago, AND that come to find out her husband and I went to the same high school for 4 years, and graduated together? What are the odds of THAT happening?
Anyway, she (Irena) and I were in a car wreck a few days ago! Ouch! Irena has been in a wheelchair since her surgery, and drives with hand controls. Some woman in a big Chevy Avalanche pulled out right in front of us, talking on her cell phone, and never even looked to her left for oncoming traffic! Yikes!
My neck started hurting right away, getting more severe every minute. Also, my left arm and hand went all numb and tingling. I was taken to the ER due to my medical history with my spine, but all they did was take a few X-Rays and send me home feeling scared. Ever since then, I have been very dizzy, off-balance, limping, and lots of other bad stuff. Today I went to see my primary care physician to tell her, and ask her if I need an MRI. She said definitely, and so I'll get one in the morning. Wish me luck. I can't imagine what is wrong, but I pretty scared about it. Have you ever heard of one of us getting re-hurt from a car accident? My doctor said maybe it caused a pinched nerve.
OK, God Bless You, EVERYONE! I hope to be able to "check-in" more often now, you all mean a great deal to me.
Love, Barbara

Hi Barbara,
Yes, I remember you. Also, no I wasn't in a wheelchair a few years back. I am working towards my 14th year with the SCT thing and it was in the early years with the wheelchair and even then it was only for the long distance. We didn't take your name off this is a new forum so you have to start over getting a new profile.
Sorry to hear about you and your friend accident. Even though it sounds bad at least you are both still here and I hope nothing bad shows up. I do remember our phone conversation and it was an amazing story.
It good to see you back on here and we hope to hear more from you. Wishing you the best in your recovery.
~Linda

Hey folks. Well, perhaps I should not rub it in, but I will anyway. It is 70 here, sunny, and calm. The best time of year in Las Vegas. We are on spring break this week, so I'll be heading out with the family for a final ski trip of the season, in Utah. I'll be doing the adaptive lessons again, so I'll let you know how well I did when I get back. Joel
