Well, my husband has been providing my care full time since he is off work until Feb. We had been getting home care to help with my showers in the morning. Because I need assistance to go to the washroom, someone has to be with me most of the time. Since Oct, mid, my husband has been doing it and he finds it very difficult being tied to the house so much. My mom did come and stay for a few days to give him a break. Anyway, today we hired a personal care worker who will come on Tues, Thurs, and Sat afternoons, 1-5, to give him a break. Our health care policy allows for 10,000 dollars a year. We pay 18.00 an hour for our worker. We are covered for 4 hrs a day for 7 days a week, but, number one, we didn't want a stranger here all the time, and number 2, we're trying to stretch our dollars. She will also help with meal prep too so that's three nights a week he doesn't have to cook!. So, check your policies and get this pre-approved, in case it is something you may want or need.

I have a great (private) policy - I used it to have help for almost a year after my surgery for help 10-6 every day. I had a good extra 'hand' every day - all day and dinner was on the table before the aide left - my wonderful supportive husband did kitchen cleanup duty every night. I count myself very lucky ---- I got spoiled when it came to an end ! It was wonderful help while it lasted!
