Well I say its amazing because I believe its fixing the "broken nerves" left from my tumor.
Right under my transition line (right under my breastline), I've felt very numb and almost like I have a belt wrapped tightly around me. Over the past three years post surgery I've gotten used to these feelings and many more I have all over my body. Well as some of you know I'm currently pregnant and dealing with my chronic pain has been a new struggle thats been manageable up until about a month ago (I'm now 7.5 months preg). Well about a month ago I layed on a heating pad (I knew better than to even attempt this) because my back muscles were spasming so bad. I currently take baclofen and nuerontin and fentynal to help with the pain but because the baby is also metabolizing them they dont work as as well. I also refuse to increase the meds. well so I layed on the heating pad, set the alarm for 15 mins (I didnt want to "cook" myself or the baby) and relaxed. It felt so great! Well the next thing I know my husband comes home about 2 or 3 hours later and I'm STILL on the heating pad. I've also turned the heating pad up in my sleep Well I turned it off and went back to bed. In the morning I noticed I had a red mark on my right side. Well come to find out I've got a 3rd degree burn on my right ribs about 4.5 cm wide and 2 cm from top to bottom. Its taken about a month to start healing well because of poor circulation but finally we're on the road to healing. Its a blessing that I'm numb right now because I haven't felt anything related to the burn until now. See I went back and had it checked, worked on, bandaged changed on Thursday Pm and since then I've been able to feel the increase in nerve activity. Now I dont know if its just the tumor but to me it feels like the nerves are regenerating in the area of my burn. Call me crazy but thats what it feels like. I've asked the burn center people if this is possible and described what it felt like. They agreed that it sounds like thats what happening. I'm thrilled for the nerves to be regenerating and healing correctly but its just interesting how before I was so numb in that area and now in just this little "spot" I'm able to feel again?!
I just wanted to share with you my experience and remind everyone who has decreased sensation to NEVER USE A HEATING PAD! I have been told, know better, and even work in the hospital but I was desperate. Everyone is shocked with I tell them a heating pad did this, and yes it had a cover, I had a shirt on but it still happened.
Thanks for letting me share!
