Hi everyone, With a good majority of us suffering from constipation (such a focal point of my life , I want to know who has ever tried that procedure that clenses out your bowels. I hear about it on the radio and wanted to know if it works and if your body would get reliant on it. It isn't cheap. BTW, I had my second colonoscopy last year (at 55) and it felt good to be cleaned out. Not too nice drinking that god awful stuff but good being emptied. Slept all though the procedure to ;D. Barb

Yeah Babs, I've had two colonoscopies so far, and I thought the same thing--it was at least nice getting completely EMPTY for once! I've often thought about just asking my doc to prescribe that same stuff every few months just to get emptied out. It wouldn't be expensive that way. But yeah, it might be like getting stuck on laxatives. Joel

I've managed to avoid the scopey rope so far. Talked to my GP about it for a few visits when he brought it up as a possibility (preventative measures) sometime in the not so distant future. We discussed the pros and cons according to my condition. We agreed that, aside from possibly ruling out colon cancer, the procedure wasn't warranted (medically necessary) at this time. I'll have it done like most do when I turn 50. Until then, I'll pass.
I guess it's at least slightly different for all of us? - the need to clean house and the measures we take to achieve the best results. Not quite sure where I fall in that line. Though I'm told my routine isn't all that uncommon for spinal cord issues of the thoracic area. What worked best for me was when I was in in-patient rehab - though it sucked. I hated the procedure but the results made me feel so much better.
Nightly routine if ya didn't go on your own.... suppository at 8:00 PM. On rarer occasions a Fleets first. EEEWWWW!!! They called it a "bowel regiment." I'd be so hungry by 5:00 AM the next morning that I would get grumpy if the food cart was 5 minutes late. I found myself so hungry that I wanted to roll over whomever got in my way to get to the FOOD! Once I got home I got away from that quite a bit. Consequently, my appetite is less.
Working from the top down just doesn't cut it for me (no pun intended). Working from the bottom up does. I seem to have improved some by taking high doses of vitamin C (thanks again to Joel for the suggestion) and drinking more juices. But I still go through some sort of cycle. Ya know... go go go for a couple days, maybe three. Then no go no go no go for quite a few days. I'm regularly irregular?
It use to be only go once a week. So it has improved some. But my pusher and my cutter are still very broken. Thankfully, my cutter works much better now than before and much better than my pusher. So suppositories kick start the pusher and work best for me. Though like self-cathing, I try to avoid them like the plague.
