Just reviewed an article in my local news paper claiming Pfizer Pharmaceuticals is being sued by 250 people who had a family member commit suicide after being on Neurotin for some tine. I suggest you seek help if you are on this med and have suicidal thoughts. What a joke if you ask me. I say this because nerve pain is what put these patients at a higher risk level for suicide...... Some one needs to bring file against Nerve Pain in my deranged opinion. Hey wait Pfizer has more money banked!!!!! Any thoughts? and please be careful.

I think your analysis is perfect, and a great example of how cause and effect are rarely as directly related as they're presented (especially in a lawsuit).

This is not the first time Pfizer(Sp?) has been in court regarding Neurotin. The first time was with the FDA who slammed them for marketing the drug for nerve pain. Apparently the drug reps found out from doctors that the drug was helping control neuropathy symptoms in the legs of diabetics whom had originally been prescribed dosages to combat seizures. Move forward a few years after the original release of Neurotin and word got out from a select group of doctors via the drug reps. The FDA blew a fuse when they found out Pfizer was indeed informing Neurologist that the drug helped dampen neuropathic symptoms. As this was not what the drugs literature and controlled testing had originally been FDA approved for. It didn't take long for the US Govt. (the FDA here)to decide that Pfizer and its drug reps had been breaking pharmaceutical labeling and information laws. Moving a few years forward the company put forth a new drug called Lyrica.... specific for nerve pain. Interestingly enough this drugs literature happens to come with suicide warnings. Before long aspirin will also carry PRINTED IN BOLD suicide warning just so the manufactures can cover their asses from the MANY lawsuit savvy attorneys that plague the US court system and medical community.

My mother told me about this news item. I said the same thing back, it probably isn't the Neurontin that caused the suicide as much as the chronic neuropathic pain. Who knows, maybe it wasn't working (as it isn't for me) and they became dispondent. I am getting the feeling there are a lot of options for us. For me Neurontin is the only thing my insurance will pay for (getting Lyrica approved will take an act of God). I am seeing a chronic pain specialist next week. I'll let you guys know if she has any earth shattering news.

Yes. I agree with you Susan.... the grind takes its toll on those with chronic neuropathy. The severe pain can nearly get to be overwhelming. At times drastic measures can seem like the way to stop the insanity of it all...... it sure would end the pain. But the reality is that we have been winning the battle since day one and will continue to do so through our faith, strength, joy of life , and the love of those we keep within our personal world. If you ever need an ear PM me, I will listen. It is hard to lay this on the people we love and keep so close.... as we know it hurts them to be so limited in what they can do for us.
Susan..... Lyrica is not all that. It gave me no more relief than neurontin..... this is fact not INTERNET fiction. I cannot be 100% certain but I will make this statement "You are not missing anything here!" I took it for a few months a while back and returned to dosing with Neurontin. Best either of the drugs have done to date is take the edge off things a smidge. I suppose that smidge is huge in the scheme things. Stay groovy Susan.
