Just wanted to know who your support system is during all of this? Brag on them, let us hear your stories. I'll start. My family is my support system. My son always gets my chair pillow before I even complain that I'm getting unfomfortable. My daughter always makes cards and words of encouragement for me. My parents and my sister are just invaluable to me and are always asking how I'm doing. I couldn't survive this without their love and constant support! I just think we should thank them and remind them that they're loved and appreciated! ;D I also wanted to add that YOU ALL are also a good source of support for me, eventhough I have never met you, it bonds us just the same, and for that I am eternally greatful.

Great thread! My support system was my family and friends and even strangers. I had the best family in the world that was there for me from day1. Also, my church family was there and lifted me up in prayers and also my community as well and even communities that didn't know me. I had so many cards sent to me that it fill up 2 albums and I still have them. My faith kept me going and God has been so good. I have to say my dog was a good support system as well I got him in May of 95 after my radiation treatments. When times got tough and words were said in the family he was right there trying to say in his dog way what's wrong let me help you! He took my mind off of me at times and made my life more happier. Years later like 6 years after my experience with SCT came the SCT support group and here I found out I wasn't alone and I learned more about my illness and was able to help others through their journey which has been a blessing I don't think of me like I did the first 5 to 6 years. So it boils down to faith, family and friends you can get through anything and be stronger from it. ~Linda

Great to hear it! My pets are also a great support system. I have 2 dogs and 2 horses that lift my spirits up when I'm down. I also have support from my wonderful church family and don't know what I'd do without their prayers and love. Let's hear more of your stories... ;D

My family; my quiet husband and son. My son is 13yrs and he's just started to learn the electric guitar. Looking at his growth every day is really something. Their smile keeps me alive. Good and positive people around me, comic programs on TV and inspiring books and music are also my support system. My goal to pursue Ph.D in my studies, and people in the SCTA who I've never met but hope to see someday in the conference. God who's in me is the most graceful support system.

Jack Daniels, and his cousin Slim Jim. I think that Slim is actually a nickname.

My support system: My husband, who keep pushing the doctors until they found what was wrong with me, and who this whole thing is especially hard on. My friends, my church choir, my boss and the people at work, my four sons, and especially the one who now is in med. school because of this whole tumor thing, my mom, my sisters, brother, two dogs, who are always there for me , and ESPECIALLY THIS SUPPORT GROUP, which no one else can relate to me like all of you. Thank you. Barb
PS Finally figured out how to put my picuture on here ;D

My support system is a lot bigger than I ever would've thought. As you start thinking about it I could add to this list for hours. Mainly my family; my son, sister, parents, pets, aunts, uncles and cousins. My friends, who I refer to as my chosen family because I actually got to pick them to be involved in my life. Of course this website as the only people who actually "get it" without lengthy explanation. My therapy team who cheer me on and allow me to invade the rehab gym as an outpatient and my cohort Jack (spinal cord injury) who therapies with me.

Where would we be without our support network! My husband was a complete champ throughout my whole ordeal! Even changed a diaper for me (poor guy)! His quote then and now whenever we talk about the tumor is "I always new you were one in a million.... you didn't need to prove it by getting a spinal tumor." I couldn't have done it without him. Also my first son was 14 months old when I went into the hospital.... he was my inspiration to stay positive and helped motivate me to get walking again. Now both my children help keep my positive. My mom is my best friend and was there everyday. Can't imagine what it would be like as a parent to see your children go through this. Where would we be without you? Thank you!!! Parents, family and friends...where to begin? This was a terrible thing that happened but I'm a very lucky person!

This is a great post. Although it's my 7 year old son who had the SCT, my husband and I couldn't of had gone through this without the support of our family and friends. Once my mother and mother-in-law learned of his surgery, they were on a plane to be here with us at the hospital the day of the surgery. My sister was also there, and it really helped get through those agonizing hours during the surgery. To have them there meant so much to us.
Almost every day I also learn of countless strangers with huge hearts, who have learned of my son's condition and have him in their prayers. Also, many church services have been dedicated to him, and it's really touched our hearts. I've been meaning to write thank you notes to all my family and friends, and this gives me an extra push to get it done!
I also appreciate this website for all the information and support.
God bless, Vanessa
