I was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago with a nerve sheath tumor at L2/L3 level. After a few mistakes with the process of referring my case to a neurosurgeon, I have an appointment next week.
I'm totally freaked out about this. I'm nervous beyond nervous...migraine headache, shaky hands, loss of appetite, nauseous, and even faint at some moments.
The whole idea of spinal surgery is a nightmare for me.
If anyone wants to share their experience, I'd really appreciate it.
How fast was your surgery done? Pain post op? How long does pain last for? 1 week? 2? 6?
My husband and I are janitors, how long should I expect to be out of work?
Apart from the above questions, what questions should I ask my neurosurgeon?

I had a golfball size tumor removed from a lumbar nerve in 2008. I was experiencing severe hip pain that was misdiagnosed for almost two years. My surgery was complicated and performed by my Neurosurgeon and a General Surgeon. I was in the hospital for three days and literally pain free besides incision pain. I had some numbness in the top part of my thigh for a while after surgery but the ache and stabbing pains were gone! I'm recently experiencing some pain behind my left knee, back, upper back and neck. Awaiting my Tuesday appointment! Good luck to you!

Recently diagnosed with tumor (schwannoma) at T12-L1. Any thoughts on getting treatment near home versus going to a major center?
