To any SCI patients/survivors, there is a wonderful charitable organization called Hope Air/www.hopeair.org. Hope Air is the national charity that helps Canadians get to medical treatment when they cannot afford the flight costs. Since 1986,they have arranged more than 53,000 flights.
Hope Air is supported by many of Canada's national and regional airlines who donate seats, plus hundreds of Volunteer Pilots who contribute their time and aircraft.
When I received my referral from Prince Edward Island to Toronto this wonderful organization flew myself and my husband to Toronto, and flew my husband back to Toronto to escort me home!
As we all know a sci is devastating, physically, mentally, and financially. We went from a two income household to one overnight, without their help we would have been maxed out on our credit cards. I cannot say enough about Hope Air and actively promote it.
I am not aware if there is a similar org in the US?

Probably the best known, at least around the northeast US, would be Angel Flights. There are many others around the country.
I do know someone who does this - he used to have a small Lear jet but switched to something more economical and can now afford to do many more flights. Said the prop plane only takes a little longer to get there but uses much less fuel and costs much less to maintain. He said the difference in fuel cost alone means he can make 5-6 flights for the same cost as 1 with the jet....
