Hi I've recently been diagnosed with a schwannoma on my L2, I've been having back problems for many years back into my teens and am 44 now. I've had pins and needles on and off for years but after an MRI again this time with contrast they told me I had a schwannoma. My symptoms have been awful pins and needles with pain and numbness to my legs. Last few days they have got worse and my legs feel like they are going to give way. My daughter has had to help me up the stairs due to not being able to walk properly. Am due to see a neuro surgeon in 2 weeks and actually feeling really nervous. Apparently the schwannoma was evident on my prev MRI but was never told about it which was 7 years ago. This time has been my worst am normally very active attend the gym or had been running which did aggravate my symptoms so I stopped running. Would love some advice from anyone who has experienced the same and what you did to relieve the symptoms.- am currently on lyrica upping it as needed 100mg twice daily st Present. With pain relief as needed. Thanks for any advice. Nicky

Hi Nicky,
My name is Yoon. I am also 44 years old and had a intradural extramedullary schwanoma between L2 and L3. The size of the tumor were 29 X 14 X 13 mm. I had back pain for over two years before I found out that I had a spinal code tumor. I found it out early December 2016 and had a surgery on February 27, 2017. My symptoms just before the surgery was pretty bad in terms of pain like pins and needles particularly when lying down. I had a bit of nerve symptoms such as tingling in my legs sometimes. My surgery went really well. My surgeon removed 3 laminas to access the spinal code. I was told 98% of the tumor was removed. It's been almost 5 weeks since I had the surgery and don't have any pain in my low back including nerve pain. But I am starting to have stiffness and discomfort in my neck and upper back. I had this upper back pain prior to the surgery but it went away after the surgery. Now it's back and made feel discomfort especially when I lie down. I would love to hear your post surgery symptoms and experience if you don't mind sharing it with me.
Thanks, Yoon
