Anybody out there with advice on when to return to work following surgery? I had mine on 7/1 for an intramedullary grade 2 ependymoma at t1 to t3. Post op complications have been numbness from chest down. Right leg is worst. Upper back extreme muscle tightness and pain. Also developed a DVT in right leg. On blood thinners for 3-6 months. I'm doing PT 3 times a week for the last 2 weeks. Bored out of my mind at home. I work as a maintenance electrician at a very large facility. Was used to walking about 5 miles a day with a tool cart. I'm not going to be able to climb ladders for a long while and sitting at a desk becomes very painful after about an hour. I'm fortunate in that I have sick time built up and not in a rush due to finances. I just don't want to come back too soon and be miserable, nor do I want to exhaust all of my time. I've improved some since I returned home on 7/25 but things are progressing very slowly. I'm wondering what reasonable progress can I expect, come say a month from now?

I was out for 2 months after my surgery, but when returned felt a lot more tired. Probably from laying around in bed for 2 months. Consider your energy levels may not be up to snuff.

2 months sounds great...I was still rehabing after two months. I was out of work 9 months...that was 15 years ago. I had to find a different job within the company but was blessed to find one that would work with my limitations. It isn't easy over coming pain and the other issues but I feel successful and so thankful that I can support my family.
