Anyone else develop a pulmonary embolism/blood clot following surgery? I did, and was rehospitalized for 10 days. I am currently on coumadin and was wondering if any of you are on this blood thinner too? As if dealing with all the physical after affects isn't enough, the blood thinner is making me lose all of my hair!!!!! For any of you that are/were taking this, do you have to be on it for life? Also, I am colder than I used to be. I feel like someone has dipped me in ice water and I guess it's just another, "wonderful" post surgical feeling that may or may not go away?

I am also on coumadin but for a different blood clotting issue not involved with my surgery. I had a bout with atrial fibrillation.
Coumadin is a real nuisance drug. It needs to be constantly monitored every few weeks or so to make sure the blood level is constant between certain amounts. A real PITA. Hopefully I may be able to get off this med if I don't have anymore bouts with my particular issue but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
The only issue or side effect I have experienced is the usual "don't cut yourself" issue because the blood now takes forever to clot. I still have all my hair although I don't have much of it to begin with. LOL I didn't realize hair loss might be a side effect, I've never heard that.
Hopefully they will remove you from it when they feel you are ready. Being on it the rest of ones life would be a real bummer!!!
I did have the chilled feeling after one surgery I had many years ago and It eventually went away after a couple of months. Hopefully it will pass for you as well.

I had a silent DVT (deep venous thrombosis) in my left calf (not related to surgery) in 2001. Fortunately it didn't cause a pulmonary embolism, but I was on Warfarin for nine months or so. I believe the normal span of treatment is six months, though for those at continued risk it may be continued.

I, too, had a blood clot in my left leg, was put on coumadin and sent home. I was so worried about it "traveling" that I wasn't so fun to be around.
But, after being on it for a little while i noticed my hair got really thin too...at first i thought ok the stress of everything got to me and im just going bald!!
But it did get thicker again, so I think your hair will grow back:) My face broke out too, did yours?

YES, my face also is breaking out, especially around my chin, like crazy!!! Guess it's better than being at risk for another PE!

On another note on hair. Sometimes by having SCT surgery that can cause some hair loss. Hair loss has been a topic on here before and I know I loss some like hand full at the time but it does get better.

I have this 3 years ago, and I'm doing well now. Thankful of being alive.
