There are many options depending on where you live. If you are over a certain age...retired or about to be, there should be a health and human services agency on aging in your community. They have a list of people who will come out and evaluate what you need to make your home more accessible and a list of people to do the work. Also, the american cancer society knows about things like this. You might also call there. There should also be information at therapy centers that could refer you. And there should be someone at your local United Way that can steer you somewhere. Hope some of this helps. Cindy

It was an Occupational Therapist that did this for me.

There is some group called "Voices For Independence", or something like that. I believe they were who came to look at our house.
They had said that they could reimberse (sp) us for the building of a ramp and other modifications if needed, some sort of government funding.
So anyhow, they came to the house and then said there was nothing they could do because we had the ramp built BEFORE I got out of the hospital. Apparently I was supposed to come home, be carried into the house, and not be able to go outside for the month that it took them to come.
That didn't make a lot of sense to me, and I hate them for it.

I know what you mean!!! This was the same group that I was in contact with before I left the rehab center. Since no one knew if I could be walking or not, some friends and I contacted them about a ramp. We were advised not to build one because they would not reimburse us for it because they had not come out and looked at my place. They wanted to set up an appointment that was way out in the time frame ...I would have been home. I know how hard it is for a lot of people. I was fortunate that I had some friends who were ready to build me a temporary ramp if needed. Some of the groups that profess to help you really don't. Cindy
