Had surgery 3 mos ago to remove schwannoma tumor near L3-4. Went well but a few days later had accident at hospital and spinal fluid came pouring out and then had another surgery to put in tube to remove spinal fluid to relieve pressure on original surgery. Had to lie flat for 5 days for this in ICU. Went home and 4 weeks later back for more spinal fluid leakage. Doc had to re-open original surgery to re-sew, glue and blood patch and then also re-did tube to relieve pressure and had to lie flat for 6 days this time in ICU. It has been 9 weeks since last surgery and I am not able to stand too long (1/2 hr) without having to go lie down to relieve pressure I feel near surgery area. I am hoping to get stronger so I am starting to walk more for therapy but have not gotten much better. Is this normal? How long did it take you all to start feeling up to standing without using a walker?

Hartjamie,
I am glad you found us and we all understand what you are going through. My surgery was on 7-7-11, but I had an ependymoma.
You might try reposting your story in the General Forum. Most everyone checks there more frequently and will have answers and examples of their own recovery to share with you.
I still use a walker but it is much easier using it than it was to start with.
Welcome, Yolanda

it took me months for the pressure to feel bearable. I progressed form a walker to a cane at about one month but wasn't walking without the aid of a cane for several months. The pressure has never completely gone away, but it bearable now. Good luck
