I wanted to post about my experience with a Marcaine pump in both of my recent surgeries. This little devise saved me a lot of pain and nausea. I am very sensitive to oral narcotics. Any I have ever been given quickly give me very bad nausea. With the Marcaine pump I woke from surgery without much pain and no nausea.
The pump was in a little shoulder bag that I could carry around with me once I was allowed to get up and walk. A tube fed the drug directly into my incision site. It was removed after three days for my first surgery, and after two days for my second surgery, after which I didn't take much more than Tylenol. I did not experience any side effects with the Marcaine pump.
My NS has decided after my good experience with this devise, that he and his staff will start using this more. If you are very sensitive to oral narcotics as I am, this is an option that you should investigate for any upcoming surgery.

hi sandy, I'm glad that you're done with your 2nd surgery. Are you recovering okay so far?

Hi Angela, I'm doing OK. My NS said this was going to hurt for longer just because of the location (thoracic). I start PT again soon along with massage therapy to help with the tightness around the incision. I've been going into work for a few hours a few times a week. The five hours I worked Monday was too much though.
