Hello Everyone...Had my doctor appointment for my yearly MRI, and wanted to share the latest with you all. There is no evidence of the beast coming back anywhere in my spine. Except for some degenerating disks and arthritis, there is nothing new to be concerned about. WHile I still have a lot of minor things that will not get better, this is still great news. My doctor said that we will now go to year and a half MRI's. They will watch me for ten years. He said after 10 years, if there are no signs of any type of recurrence, you are considered cured. So, one beast down and one to go. I am down to six radiation treatments for the beast in my breast. Let's hope I am as blessed with this battle as I was with the spinal cord. May all of you be as blessed as I am...Cindy
Thank you God for your many blessings! Surgery and laminectomy T11-12 and L1-2, December 2005, intramedullary and extramedullary ependymoma, benign.
This is great news! Keep a positive attitude. Barb

Awesome Cindy, I hope I have the same readings next month on my MRI. I havent had one since my surgery (year and a half ago) so Im curious. I'm happy for ya!!
Ependymoma at t-8/t10, removed at Shands at UF by Dr Kelly Foote in Aug '06
That's wonderful news, Cindy!! You must be very relieved.
I go tomorrow for the follow-up on my MRI (5 months after my 2nd surgery - I got off-schedule because I had some weird issues crop up 2 months after the 2nd surgery).
Hopefully my news will be good as well.
Chris
Grade II Intramedullary Ependymoma at C6. Aborted surgery in Sept 2007 followed by resection in Nov 2007, both at Walter Reed Army Medical Center by Dr. Patrick Cooper.
This is indeed very good news! Stay with us and keep in touch! Joel
2 surgeries--1st 1996, guy couldn't find it. 2nd was Jallo, in 2004; he got it all, C2-C4; probably astrocytoma; but also got a nasty staph infection, requiring another surgery. Holding my own.
Congratulations and keep a positive thought. I'd really hate to burst a bubble especially because I don't know your situation or amount of resection, but my ependymoma did grow back and my second surgery was 17 years after my original surgery. After the magical 10 year mark I was going to be discharged from Cancer clinic, who were following me due to the radiation from the initial surgery, but I requested to continue to be followed. I am glad that I did and I hope that I am just an oddity in this regrowth category. Just a cautionary, listen to your body and follow your gut instinct regarding your health.
Intramedullary Ependymoma T9 - S3. Surgery completed May 22, 2007 by Dr. Haq.
Original surgery for Intramedullary ependymoma in lumbar region completed in 1990 by Dr. Chaudhuri followed by 6 weeks of radiation.
Do you mind telling me where your tumor was located, how long after diagnosis you had surgery, and how was your first year post-op.
I had an ependymoma T-10-T-12 with a syrnix, post-op symptoms after 7 months: Bilateral weak and numb legs, neuropathy, clonus, loss of balance, and loss of proprioception. Don't feel like I'ved improved much....feeling desperate.
