Hello Everyone...Had my doctor appointment for my yearly MRI, and wanted to share the latest with you all. There is no evidence of the beast coming back anywhere in my spine. Except for some degenerating disks and arthritis, there is nothing new to be concerned about. WHile I still have a lot of minor things that will not get better, this is still great news. My doctor said that we will now go to year and a half MRI's. They will watch me for ten years. He said after 10 years, if there are no signs of any type of recurrence, you are considered cured. So, one beast down and one to go. I am down to six radiation treatments for the beast in my breast. Let's hope I am as blessed with this battle as I was with the spinal cord. May all of you be as blessed as I am...Cindy

That's wonderful news, Cindy!! You must be very relieved.
I go tomorrow for the follow-up on my MRI (5 months after my 2nd surgery - I got off-schedule because I had some weird issues crop up 2 months after the 2nd surgery).
Hopefully my news will be good as well.
Chris

Congratulations and keep a positive thought. I'd really hate to burst a bubble especially because I don't know your situation or amount of resection, but my ependymoma did grow back and my second surgery was 17 years after my original surgery. After the magical 10 year mark I was going to be discharged from Cancer clinic, who were following me due to the radiation from the initial surgery, but I requested to continue to be followed. I am glad that I did and I hope that I am just an oddity in this regrowth category. Just a cautionary, listen to your body and follow your gut instinct regarding your health.

Do you mind telling me where your tumor was located, how long after diagnosis you had surgery, and how was your first year post-op. I had an ependymoma T-10-T-12 with a syrnix, post-op symptoms after 7 months: Bilateral weak and numb legs, neuropathy, clonus, loss of balance, and loss of proprioception. Don't feel like I'ved improved much....feeling desperate.
Thanks, Tony
