I'm very sorry that your husband has been diagnosed with an astrocytoma. There are a lot of wonderful people here who can share their experiences with spinal tumors and offer advice, but many more of them will see your message if you post it on the General Forum. That's where most of the forum members tend to congregate and share information.

astrocytomas are generally more tricky than ependymomas because there's usually some nerve involvment with the tumor tissue. however, debulking astrocytomas has been helpful to regain function.

Hi all, My partner has been diagnosed with a astrocytoma spinal cord tumour, I am wanting Amy advice or anyone in a similar situation to please offer any advice or just to talk over situation! My partner marc is 26, he was diagnosed in September with a spinal tumour, he has had two de compressions, the first decompression left him with some mobility with a frame but after this second one, just ten weeks after his first he is currently left with nothing from waist down! It has effected his life and ours as a family terribly, he is awaiting radiothearpy to start, does anyone know much about proton bean therapy? I wish they could operate on his tumour and take it out but this can't happen as it's in his cord! Have spent many nights googling trying to find support groups etc but this is all I can see, any advice or someone in a similar situation would be great to talk too
Thanks
Cat x

Hi Cat, welcome to the forum. Sorry you need to be here Most people post in the General section of the forum. You will get more responses there - people rarely check these sub-forums for the different types of tumors. So, if you want to go over there you can start a new thread about your partner and others will respond and try to help you.

Hello, I had my tumor successfully removed from inside my spinal cord on jan 18, 2012. (Anaplastic astrocytoma III). My back pain is gone and the only residual issue is numbness in my left foot and a buring sensation in my left ankle area. I begin radiation with a low dose of Temodar on Feb 13th for a period of 5 1/2 weeks. I get a 4 week break. I then begin 1 year of chemotherapy (Temodar)
I have an amazing team of doctors and the best advice they gave me was to stop looking at statistics. You are an individual and must be positive and have faith. Regards Joe
