I wrote about this on the previous forum and I found out it is from having a lesion or scar tissue in or on the cord. It is similar to what people with MS have and the symptoms are the exact same. I have found that tight clothes or rubbing against my skin triggers the muscles to spasm around my rib cage and my lower back.
My right foot when I drive becomes stiff as well because of the tapping of peddle with the ball of my foot. It triggers clonus. I am on medication but there powers are overriden by what I eat, feel, and do.
Sooo, if this is happening to you then you may want to google MS Hug and you will find many tips on how to manage the pain and the spasms without medication.

I have that too, Tony, when i have a shirt on (which isnt too often nowadays) all hell breaks loose from the hypersensitivity on my stomach causing everything from lower back down to spasm and clonus. You dont have a problem with flooring the gas pedal when your leg cramps up? Thats one of my fears of when i start driving again.

I mostly have it when I have too tight of something on. No worries. About 6 months ago my leg used to try to floor the gas pedal but that went away surprisingly. My foot however does get clonus when I drive but I am used to it and no worries so far.

Hi guys,
I guess I'm the only female answering this question. I was just thinking about this tight feeling today, in fact. It goes from right under my breast around my rib cage and down along with numbness. To have a top on (which I DO have to wear :-), drives me absolutely crazy!!! I am so sensitive to the feeling, especially if I have forgotten to take my neurotin. This is how my body says- hey, you forgot your second pill today! I always thought that the tightness was from the fact that my back is broader since my surgery and my skin seems to pull around that area and my ribs are showing. Is there a reason for that.
As far as the leg/feet problem- a few years ago my foot used to spasm and jump off the break and onto the gas and that is when I got hand controls. I had a couple of close calls and didn't want to chance any more.
BTW, where was your tumor located? Barb

Wow, I had never heard of clonus before. So that's what it's called. I too, have that tightness around my ribs, especially on the left side. It always feels as if there is just this big tight lump there. I guess I never thought about it much because it's just been there so long. And then on some days it will tighten all the way up that side to my shoulder and neck. God help me if I sneeze of cough. That's a spasm for sure. Cindy

I definitely have a tight feeling around the rib cage. It had seemed to subside for a month or so and now it is back. I've also got similar tightness in my legs - very awkward feeling.
As for driving, I have given it up for a while - can't tell where my feet are relative to the break and gas. So sometimes my foot slipped off the gas pedal, sometimes it went in between the break and gas, etc. Also can't tell how hard I'm pressing down - so sometimes too hard or not hard enough for the situation. Being in the DC area with traffic, etc - I decided to take a break. If things don't improve in a while I will look into hand controls - but it's only been 5 months since my 2nd surgery and I don't want to rush things.
Anyone else give up driving for similar reasons to mine? Did the feelings ever change, etc??
Chris
