Hi, I'm new here. On June 10, 2009 I was diagnosed with Intramedullary Cervical Ependymoma from C1 to T2. After being told by several neurosurgeons that they wouldn't touch me as it was too dangerous I found Dr. Ania Pollack at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. Pollack has a wonderful bedside manner and takes the time to fully explain everything to her patients. Not many doctors will actually sit and cry with their patients. She made sure I understood all the risks of the surgery before hand. She also informed me that the tumor was large it was about to burst open my spinal cord. She couldn't figure out how my only symptoms were numb feet. On August 18, 2009, Dr. Pollack performed an 18 hour surgery to remove my tumor. After several days in a drug induced coma I was brought out of it. It took 6 months to go from wheelchair to walker, to cane, and finally my own 2 feet without aid. I do have pain and neuropathy in both hands/arms and limited use of them, but am proud to say that I was back at work after only 3 months. I have MRI's every 6 months now to make sure nothing has returned and am pleased to announce that everything looks great to date. Dr. Pollack calls me her Miracle Patient, but in actuality Dr. Pollack is the miracle. She took a chance on me and saved my life. Me, my husband, and 4 kids will be eternally grateful to her.
