Hi, I just found this group. It looks like it's been dormant for quite a while but I thought that I would try to reach out. I had C7-T3 laminectomy, resection of meningioma on March 29, 2013. I was almost paralyzed from the waist down before a diagnosis was finally made. I'm still experiencing quite a bit of muscle plain from the surgical site. I also have not regained feeling in a good portion of my back. I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems after surgery.
Thanks!

Just found this site. I had my tumor removed, with two surgeries. First was on 8/25, dr took 60% of tumor thinking cancer--THank God, it wasn't. So on 9/8 he removed the rest, it was attached to the lining around the cord. He actually had to reconstruct the lining, it is at the T4, T5 and T6 area. My question is, my right leg is totally numb from my behind all the way to my toes, does the feeling come back? Dr only tells me it takes time and I know each case is different, but need so hope to drive again. I start physical therapy on Friday. Also I am suffering from migraines, taking fiorcet every 4 hours to keep them under control, will these end?--had MRI today to make sure it wasn't spinal fluid leaking.

I had a meningioma in my spinal column removed in March. I had to have a laminectomy of the T1 through T5. Recovery has been a lot of highs and lows. I had no feeling from the waist down and could barely walk prior to surgury, immediately after surgery I had feeling again and was walking without a cane in about 8 weeks. There are still things that I can't do, weird things like putting towels on the top shelf or bend over to tie my shoes. There is still some muscle pain and some spasms but overall life is much better post-op

Hi There, In 2014 I was diagnosed with a meningioma at the T6 level and also had bone spurs and other back related issues. The funniest thing was the only pain I was experiencing at the time was left sided abdominal pain. After a consult with my surgeon I elected to have back surgery since the meningioma was severly compressing my spinal cord. During surgery I lost motor function at my T8 level and ended up with a SCI at T8. Fast forward six months later, the pain in my abdomen returned and after more imaging another mass was found at the same level. I was due to have this removed and a spinal fusion last June but I was dealing with a stage 4 pressure ulcer on my left buttock and an hour before my surgery, the surgeon cancelled. I am now 5 months post flap surgery on my ulcer and now have to start everything over again. New imaging, another consult with my in network Neuro (different surgeon from my first op) who will not be able to perform this procedure because it's beyond his scope of practice. I will eventually be referred to Duke again or Chapel Hill for my procedure. I just want this done with.
I am (hate to say this) but glad to see I am not the only one with pain that radiates thought to my stomach. I wish i had found this group sooner. Everyone thinks Im nuts. I spent 2 years prior to the MRI finding the tumor going to the ER with severe stomach pain only to be told there was nothing wrong with my stomach. Finally, I had a great PCP that actually thought to think outside the box and thats when this showed up. I also work in the medical field and I received my MRI results before she did. I text her and said you might want to check this out. I think we finally found the reason Im in pain.
Glad to connect with others who are going through this and that I am not alone.
Have a great day!!
Bonnie

I had meningioma surgery at the T5-T6 level two and a half months ago. My surgery was not elective because my spinal cord was 90% compressed from the tumor. Before that time, I'd endured several months of excruciating pain in my legs and was barely able to walk even with a walker. I actually fell and broke my ankle because my balance was so bad. In the weeks before my surgery I also developed abdominal tightness that made my life entirely miserable. I took several medications for the pain, but none of them helped. Like many of you, it took quite a while to be diagnosed correctly.
I'm leaving this post mainly as an encouragement, as my recovery has gone very well. After surgery, for about a month, I had burning pain in my legs that was- surprisingly- somewhat relieved by pointing a fan at them as I lay on the sofa. The abdominal tightness persisted for about two months but has now gone away completely. As far as my mobility, I have been going to physical therapy and that has been very helpful. The first month after surgery, I needed a walker. The second month I needed a cane, and at this point I am walking independently again. My balance is good -but not perfect and I'm working on that at physical therapy. I have very minor pain in my feel and knees if I walk for a long time--but,at age 61, I might have that anyway! I couldn't be happier with the results on my surgery and hope and pray that many of you reading this will have the same results from your surgery!
