hello, our 18 year old son was diagnosed with scoliosis last year when he was going through a growth spurt. we tried everything under the sun to stop progression of the curves with the biggest one now being at 70 degrees. he was set to going to nyc this week to have vbt, a minimally invasive surgery, to correct the curve. the surgery was postponed once they spotted a tumor in in spinal cord on this mri. after taking more mris with contrast, the radiologist and neurosurgeon both think that it is more than likely an astrocytoma or possibly an ependymoma. the neurosurgeon said that he won't know what it is until they take a biopsy and that he won't be able to remove it if it's an astrocytoma. he did say that the vbt surgery could happen immediately after the biopsy is taken. our son doesn't want to have any radiation or chemotherapy, which we completely support. i'm wondering if his scoliosis was caused by the tumor or if the tumor came about because of the scoliosis. also, has anyone followed alternative therapies for shrinking the tumor and had success? trying to make sense out of all of this and be there for him. thank you.

I just found out about this forum. I was diagnosed with ependymoma grade III in March of 2015. In March of 2017 I went on the alkaline diet, eating just raw fruit and vegetables. I would eat raw fruit for breakfast and lunch or sometimes a fruit smoothie. Dinner would normally be a large salad. for snacks I would have more fruit or pumpkin seeds. I also drank four 8 ounce cups of carrot juice and four 8 ounce cups of Lou Corona's Lemon Ginger Blast juice daily. One drink an hour throughout the day. I also took various herbs, such as curcumin, reishi mushroom, pawpaw, by December an MRI showed the tumor on my spine did shrink from 1.9 X 5.2 to 1.7 x 5. In 2018, I tried to do the modified macrobiotic diet, by Michio Kushi, but I was not familiar with the food or the cooking techniques. So I did it wrong. Fortunately, the tumors did not grow. So, the beginning of 2019 I'm going to try the modified macrobiotic diet again. If I do not see positive results on my next MRI in about 6 months. I will go back to the raw food. One reason I went to the cooked food was because I felt cold all the time eating the raw food. There appears to be many people getting well from Cancers and tumors. I would check out chrisbeatcancer by Chris Wark either his website or YouTube videos. Also, check out The Truth About Cancer by Ty Bollinger also on his website or YouTube videos. Also, check out Gerson Therapy. The reason I'm using the modified macrobiotic diet is according to their book The Cancer Prevention Diet by Michio Kushi is it says they have success with brain tumors which I also do have. I have found the videos on YouTube about these protocols encouraging and it keeps me on track to stick with the protocol I'm on.
