I wish I could take the Lyrica and Neurontin. They have tried Cymbalta with me as well, but I have reactions to all of them. Currently using Medical Marijuana but it only helps somewhat. The biggest complaint in the article is "brain decline" and memory issues are my biggest complaint with the M.M. too. Scary article.

Lyrica is a scary drug and once I started reading up about it, I couldn't get off it quickly enough! See my post about it under "Better, then Worse" thread.

Dear Bill, I just read the article and it sounds very scary indeed. But you've been on Lyrica for how long now? Do you feel your brain function has deteriorated? What does your GP think? The longer I'm around, the more I think our bodies do an amazing job, healing and compensating to help us survive and function better than medical science understands. My consultant always looks at my yearly MRI and is frankly baffled how I have any motor function, as he says 'things look pretty tight in there'. So, if it's working for you, maybe your body knows how to deal with the side effects, or not be affected. I didn't find pregabalin, Lyrica, helped me, nor did Gabapentin - but then, NONE of the drugs we get prescribed were actually designed or formulated to help us with neuropathy. Talk to your doctor, if you have a good one. At the moment, I'm on a combination of Baclofen [for muscle cramps]. Tramadol [nerve pain] and Sativex [also nerve pain]. The most relief I get is one point for each of the painkillers, so if my pain is 8, they bring it down to 6. It is sometimes more. So they have not found the magic bullet yet. Just been reading a more encouraging article about the use of ultrasound to repair damage done to glial cells by Alzheimers. Check this out: www.sciencealert.com/new-alzheimer-s-treatment-fully-restores-memory-function. I bet you can get on a trial for this somewhere in the US. All good wishes, FW.

Hey, FW: I've been on Lyrica for two or three years. None of the people involved in prescribing it have expressed any reservation about brain deterioration. I feel a little stupider, pretty much like I did on Neurontin, but that could also be related to aging. Baclofen didn't work for me; I've never tried Tramadol (is it an opioid?). Lyrica also makes me put on weight, but until something better comes along, it's worth it to me (it takes my nerve pain down a couple of points).

Hello folks,
I am almost on Lyrica & Cymbalta for 2 years. 150 mg of lyrica in the morning and 60mg at noon Cymbalta. I tried to go to 30mg Cymbalta 3 months back and its fine. once I stop it (30mg Cymbalta), & after finishing from the bad symptoms of exit (like diarrhea, dizziness, excess emotional feeling like crying directly...) my pain come again after like 10 days, (I believe until the drug come out of my blood totally) so I was forced to come back to Cymbalta 30mg per day. No issues if one day I skip it even.. Regarding Lyrica, I changed from 300mg last year to 150 this year and recently this month to 75mg but no change in pain. I was forced to reduce it since there is no much Lyrica in my country and very difficult to get it. Actually, I feel lyrica is helping me in some way for tingling & tightness in thighs. I should try to stop it in future, but however no feeling of any side effects as of now. I am still having my good functioning brain, and I am working as engineer and no symptoms of any.... Actually it is very difficult for me to specify if the meds are helping me or no (specially Lyrica) since my pain isn't properly released. When you are still in pain, it is hard deciding what is your pain level which is very difficult and you cannot be sure from anything.. You may thing that certain meds are helping but in fact it will not be helping. In fact Folks, do you advise me to change from meds to meds until I find something is helping and to use it. Did some body try several meds until he found the requested one. Does this will help? Please advise me, in case I WILL TRY tramadol, I heard a lot about it & sativex too..
Finally, I would say if a medicine (whether Lyrica or any other) is helping me to survive 10 years out of pain, instead of 15 years with pain. Certainly I will choose first option.
Peace and love

Im not sure how you all feel about opioids or how much of pain you are all in but I myself are in a 9-10+ most days so I have to take opioids for pain.I have not found much else that has worked except methadone. Methadone can be used as a pain medication and it works well.I have a high tolerance to pain medication so it takes a lot to control my pain.Fentanyl patches are also a good option for around the clock relief if you need it but your dr will only give you those if you have tried all other pain medications and they have not worked.I have also used oxycodone and this works as well.I am still trying to find the perfect match for me I hope we all find what makes us comfortable enough to live somewhat of a normal life....
