I had a C3-C4 medial branch nerve block last week to treat occipital pain. I had 2 days of relief from pain but now it is back. We are considering nerve ablation as next step since I had some pain relief. Thoughts? Experience?

Hi Dawn, I have had nerve burns done bilaterally at 8 levels, thoracic to lumbosacral, over the course of the past year and a half. I had facet injections done first and they gave me temporary relief. The nerve burns definitely gave me more long term relief. I have heard from some people that have had relief for over a year after a burn. My results have not lasted as long, but I have a lot going on in all spine areas. The way it was explained to me, if you feel relief initially from the injection (not sure how similar this is to a nerve block) then the ablation should be beneficial. Since everyone's body and structure is different, there is no way to be sure...but I know they have helped me tremendously. I am usually sore and tight muscles the day of and the day after the procedure, but rest and lots of ice will help immensely. I hope you are able to find relief soon.
