It’s been 2 years since surgery and the numbness still feels the same. ¾ of my body is numb. The only so called cure I know of is exercising. Has anyone numbness disapated?

My neurologist told me that exercise is good for me and I should do it, but it wouldn't necessarily help repair damaged nerves. Only time will do that. Allot of numbing has gone away after 4 months, however I still have it on my right quad and left side of my abs. Everyone is different, in my case I was in excellent physical condition with the exception of a life treating tumor crushing spinal cord.
Where was your tumor and what kind of tumor was it?

I'm almost 4 years post-surgery and most of my body remains numb ... I'm sorry to say, for both of us. I have been taking fish oil (DHA) and turmeric because of the study I read about at this link ... blog.amsvans.com/spinal-cord-injury-healing-aided-by-tumeric-and-omega-3-supplements/There has been no improvement so far, but I'm trying. I've spent so much time coping with the numbness that I don't even remember what it used to feel like.

5.5 years post-op. Still fighting everyday. Keeping exercising just made me feel like old me, but did very little help for the sensation.

Everyone's story is different, but this means that change and improvement could happen to any of us, at any time. Trying to explain to the outside world what sensory nerve craziness is really like is another matter. No one who has never had it can truly get the idea of what it's like. That's why I like coming here. We can at least understand!

I attended the conference in Orlando this past summer. A rehab specialist, Dr Steins spoke. He said that spinal cord tissue can continue to regenerate and recommended taking a B12 supplement to help. I went to the drug store down the road from the hotel and bought some that same day. I think it is helping. It might be worth trying.

Hi Atimjk1 My story is somewhat different as I have not yet had my tumour removed, but have all the sensory nerve disturbance symptoms. They are quite distracting, but you do get used to them eventually. I had a disc bulge at L5 three years ago, on the opposite side to my tumour. I have been left with a permanently numb outer edge and two toes of my left foot. I have gotten used to it now, and if I exercise it ( like in flight exercises) the numbness does decrease. It's rotten having all of these symptoms and I hope you start to get feeling again. As others have said, it takes time for nerves to repair, up to years. Be patient! Lol Sue x
