Hi there
I have been prescribed Morphine Sulphate Tablets (10mg twice daily), I have constant pain, but am still in watch and wait models surgery is too risky. These tablets are slow release. I have been taking two days and my breakthrough pain is back. I cannot discern any analgesic effects from the morphine, but it may be early days yet!
The only side effect so far is a little bit of " other worldliness".
Has anyone got experience of this drug.
Cheers

I was given morphine iv in hospital after surgery, then moved over to oralmorph after ICU, I remember the oralmorph locked me big time, although I was on a bunch of other pain meds..
anyway, on Christmas day I had a friend over who happened to have a bottle of oramorph, 10mg/5ml :-) , I tried some, half a teaspoons worth, and felt it within minutes, took away a lot of the pain from stiffness/spasticity. so after lunch, say 3 hours later, I had another dose, full teaspoon this time, by this time I the evening it gets cold, and so my nerve pain gets worse, but the oramorph took the edge off the nerve pain, no other pain and I even felt more mobile/less stiff.
so ye, good experience for me, I imagine oramorph and gabapentin will do me good for pain management, I'll talk to my gp about it. I don't like tramadol and codiene gives me major constipation.
how are you finding the slow release tabs?

ERM, never mind, I read in another thread you have better control using tramadol :-)

Just got home with little bottle of oramorph. Can try it for size, dosing more or less according to my needs. Will keep you all posted. Oh, and is anyone here on Duloxitine? About to try that too.

Yes, the Duloxitine has helped with my deep nerve pain, which is on my left forearm (more severe) and right forearm less severe) both all of the time and more intense with more fine motor use. For example, when beading, typing, hand sewing, my hands and forearms are miserable, but I try to keep them going b/c I notice muscle wasting in my hands when I don't. I also use Lyrica, which I think helps with the restlessness and more twitchy, nervy pain. Tramadol and codeine w/ Tylenol.
For the past 3 years, since my surgery, I have attributed my fatigue, restless legs, forgetfulness to my drugs and side effects from having the tumor removed (c3-c7 ependymoma, 2/28/2011). Then this past fall, my PCP did routine blood work for a company physical and I was diagnosed with severe iron deficiency anemia. Now that I have gotten my iron levels up, I have noticed I am marginally less forgetful:), and have Na noticeable increase in energy, less severe restless legs. Anyways, maybe that will help others....I NEVER would have thought something like anemia could be causing so many problems!

That is interesting, Kathy. Sometimes I forget while I am coping with my SCT the rest of me is likely to get 'normal' things unrelated. Oramorph, sadly, did nothing for me at all. I am going ahead with titrating Duloxitine even though on two tablets a day there is no change. If only a magic bullet would come along!

Like other opioid medicines, morphine can slow your breathing. Death may occur if breathing becomes too weak. A person caring for you should seek emergency medical attention if you have slow breathing with long pauses, blue colored lips, or if you are hard to wake up. Narcotic (opioid) medication can interact with many other drugs and cause dangerous side effects or death. Be sure your doctor knows if you also use: other narcotic medications - opioid pain medicine or prescription cough medicine ( rxpromocodes.com/pharmacies/cheap-rx-com/ ); drugs that make you sleepy or slow your breathing - a sleeping pill, muscle relaxer, sedative, tranquilizer, or antipsychotic medicine; or drugs that affect serotonin levels in your body - medicine for depression, Parkinson's disease, migraine headaches, serious infections, or prevention of nausea and vomiting. This list is not complete. Other drugs may interact with morphine, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all possible interactions are listed.
