(SCT C5-6 with swelling damage C4-T1 - no surgery yet - still in discovery stage)
I have been getting these big cat like stretches for the last month. It started as 3 or 4 times a day and is now all day long sometimes 2-3 back to back. I notice I get them nearly every time I stand after sitting, but I also get them when I first lay down or change position.
My whole body tightens up and it feels like my throat closes. My husband can always tell when it has happened because as the stretch ends and the muscles in my throat release I make a sound. Like a cat or dog cough. In a normal yawn I expel air... I think the noise is that air finally getting out when my throat relaxes.
Does anyone else have this?? Any idea??It has gotten worse just this week and it's making me nervous. I don't have another appointment with the NSs for a while.

I actually get these god awful spasms when I wake up or stretch. They aren't as bad as they have been but still there. I just try to straighten my body and my body from my waist and back down tighten up and shoot outward. What I hate is this tightening around my rib cage when I walk or lie down. I can hardly breathe, do you get this also? I haven't found any of this healing process easy in any way. My neck and chest area feel tight and sometimes the muscles around my throat twist sideways.. ugh! You are not alone

It's not just me! I have had them about once a week since 6 weeks post-op. I just thought my body thought it needed to stretch and since I couldn't feel anything....well, you understand. I have an appointment with my NS on the 31st and I will be sure to ask him. I will let you know

Femmy, have you called your NS about this? In the past I've avoided calling docs, but recently I've been forced to do that a few times and now I wish I'd done it more often/earlier when I had a question about a change happening with C. The docs have been really responsive, despite their crazy schedules. Sometimes they bring C's visit forward, other times they help us over the phone with some words of wisdom or a prescription change.

Sorry, I got busy and didn't get back to this! I had my second spinal tap last week (no results yet). I was able to ask a nurse but she suggested I ask the NSs. I should have an appointment with them next week after the neuro-ophthalmologist appointment (3.5 hour drive so I try to fit it all in). I am glad to know it's not just me. Thanks for the replies.
