Tyler, I had a tumor partialy removed 7/12/07 it was low grade cancer. My surgeon was wonderful, in fact the first thing I asked him after surgery was if i would walk and he said yes. Although it has been a challenge and I walk with a walker, I am walking. My Drhad me doing follow up MRI's every 4 months to monitor the tumor. All were good till the last one August 18, 2008. 1 year and 1 month after the surgery. My tumor doubled in size from my April MRI to the August one. Even after undergoing 5 weeks radiation to try and kill the tumor that was left. I was bumbed out to say the least. Then I had to pick myself up and say look you will walk and you will get better. My doctor here in Tucson AZ sent me to the Barrow Institute in Phoenix AZ to figure out what to do about the regrowth. Dr Curtis Dickman is the dr at Barrow and he also in a very caring and kind man. I will be having surgery sometime in the beginning of November to try and take out the tumor. I feel very good about having it removed, and keep telling myself I will walk out of the hospital.

Tyler, I had a benign subependemoma, and no doctor has ever said it has shortened my lifespan in any way. I deal with stroke-like disabilities on my left side, but I exercise more now than before the surgery. Even though I can't do as much as I could before, I feel I am in even better shape than I was before the surgery. I suppose if I had let my disabilities overwhelm me and I was sitting around feeling sorry for myself ... that alone might shorten my lifespan. Forget what that doctor said and enjoy your life :-)

Hi Alison, were they able to get all of your tumor out? I know I'M throwing a pity party here, but I just feel like the guy who was able to dodge the bullet, but might be killed by the ricochette. I know your right, Joel, about the unpredictability of tumors, I will keep exercising and try to put this out of my mind. Thanks again to all who have responded. Tyler
