My sister lives in Germany. She told me "I saw your surgery on TV". She saw a program on the BBC called "Fight for Life" where they showed spinal cord tumor surgery on a child here in the US. She said it showed the whole thing, putting him in a Mayfield Clamp, turning him face down, applying the SSEP/MEP monitors, cutting into the dura, etc. They were unable to resect the entire tumor because his MEPs to one arm and one leg went down. I went to the BBC's website and found the program while I was on the phone with her. From the program description it was the episode "The Teenage Years". It showed a different story and did not have the spinal cord tumor story listed in the synopsis. It would be really interesting to see the part of the program showing spinal cord tumor surgery. Does anyone more tech savy than I have any ideas of how to find it? Susan

The BBC's iPlayer is an excellent service, but only stores programmes for seven days. I've tried searching for the programme, but no luck.

I would also love to see something like that. I am so ignorant as to how my surgery was done and if I knew, I could tell other people. Barb

Hi,
I saw the program when it was on some 6 months ago in England. I remember commenting on it, on this web site at the time. I also wrote to the BBC at the time to see when it may be reshown. I'll look into it again and report back. It was very good. It was on the neck and exactly like my surgery without the fusion bit. Very interesting.

Alison,
When the BBC responds to your questions, can you let me know what their email address is? I'd like to see if we can get permission to show some video footage (of the program) on our new YouTube channel.
Robert

Here is the link to the BBC listing of the program. My sister is pretty sure it was the episode from 7/23, The Teenage Years, based on the other stories described in the the synopsis. Maybe they would allow us to have the clip for the SCTA site. It would be really cool to be able to see it. www.bbc.co.uk/health/tv_and_radio/fightforlife_index.shtml

Cheers Robert - I had sent an e-mail to the contact I had, so I'm sure something will get sorted. It was good footage of cervical spine surgery.

This was my post - the boys name is Zak
Hi,Forgive me if there is reference to this already, but I've just watched a programme here in England where Mr. Jallo operated on a 13 yr old boy called Zak at the John Hopkins. It was a very interesting programme of a benign tumor within the cervical cord.Has anyone seen the programme?? Are you a member of this site Zak??
