I have been using tramadol for about a year now. It works the same as vicodin or percoset for me. I like it better because it doesn't make me feel so drugged up as the others do.

My pain management Doc prescribed this to me and it works great. I am ten times more comfortable now and I can see how it can be addictive.

I used Ultram-ER 300mg. (1X daily) and I felt great.....definately no pain - but had to be constantly aware of fiber, and lots of water in diet to relieve constipation and hated for my day to revolve around my bowels!!! I was afraid of getting 'hooked' on the Ultram - it was a case of no pain or constipation ..... My pain level is now manageable so I weaned myself off the Ultram-ER
Actually, Degenerative Osteo-Arthritis in my spine gives me more pain than any residual pain from my spine surgery and my doctor suggested I try Celebrex instead of the Ultram-ER - haven't tried it yet - but I have filled the scrip...........
I am trying to stay away from meds as much as possible - my bowels work regularly and easily now without all the pain meds. A good high fiber cereal and prune juice each AM works for me.
It's a good trade off as long as the pain is manageable and I can function thru the day...........

I had tumor removed 12/12/06 at t-1 and t-2 by Dr. Jane at UVA. Still have back pain, numbness in butt, leg(s) right is the most affected and feet. Also a sometimes burning stabbing pain in the right arm. I have not taken any medication since the pain medication the first few weeks. Exercise is mainly just walking...used to be very active. Should I check into seeing a doctor other than the surgeon? Didn't think there was anything but time that would help?

Funny that you should say that because my PCP basically told me the same thing. Just time. As far as pain management goes, I might try getting a regular neurologist, one who you like and stick with him/her. Sometimes they can help your pain issues. If you do this, I'd also get all your surgical info and make sure they have copies of everything as a reference.
I take Gabapentin daily to help with the burning in my arm and it does work. I'm not on any of the other drugs as mentioned above. You're probably better off not taking any if you can stand it. I guess any of these drugs have their side effects and dependencies.

Hi everyone, I'm new to these posts but I thought I would put my three cents in about Ultram. If you read the inserts it says all over the place it IS habit forming. No it's not a narcotic and doesnt' have the "stupid" effect I've had with all the other narcotics I've had to use. I have a swannoma (still can't spell it right!) from T11-L4 which is inoperable, I've had two surgeries to resect it but if they take it out I lose my legs and since they are going to go from the tumor anyway I'd rather wait and let nature take it's course. It causes a lot of pain and leg weakness, on the right side I already dad from a previous MVA so I take a lot of pain meds, After being tired of taking huge doses of Oxycontin I decided to quit one day talk about withdrawals!! I take Ultram ER right now, which doesn't help with the pain at all and will move back to narcotics in a week or so. But saying that I know the start of dependency, watery eyes, shaking hands in the morning so I know these are the same, from what I understand the withdrawals are very light a couple of days at best and nothing like harder narcotics. So be careful with them the docs won't tell you or don't know that they are so habit forming. I do have a question does any one use the creams for pain? The doc had me get some cream with Ketamine and Ketephon that is supposed to help it doesn't but does stop the "pins and needles" from my nerve damage on my feet. If anyone has any experience with the cream I'd love some input thanks Vickie
