The botox treatment I had done last Monday is working. I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!. My leg is not as stiff, it feels fifty pounds lighter, and my ankle is at a neutral position for the first time in a year!!! Also, my left foot used to turn bluish/purple when it was down for any length of time and now it is normal. The edema has improved as well. And, apparently, you see the optimal results at week 2-4, so I'll keep you all posted. My physios are so optimistic about the outcome.

I am so happy for you! My botox has helped me a lot! My daughter was married last Saturday and with all the stress I was able to get through it with little pain! I tried very hard not to complain and I noticed how much better I was doing!!! I am sure it was the botox!!! Now we are driving to Philly (12 hours in the car.....UGH) to help our daughter and son-in-law move into their new apartment. If I get through that drive without much trouble I will be so happy!!! Hi Beth, Your posts concerning botox were very encouraging. I was nervous about getting it, mostly because I had heard it was quite painful. It was uncomfortable, but I would do it again because the payoff I' m seeing is worth it. Wishing you a nice trip and hoping you don't get too sore. Long drives can be difficult. I use my magic bag a lot.

We are back now. We had a great time helping our daughter and new son-in-law move into their place. It was a long drive and a lot of cleaning! and Shoping! I was hurting but I am sure it would have been worse if I would not have had the botox! It is good to be home. I would love to know how to insert pictures then I could share some from the wedding.... Please someone tell me how to insert them.

I had a follow up with my physiatrist yesterday so he could see the effects of the botox after 2 weeks and he was amazed at the improvements it made. My ankle is so much more flexible and my foot is in neutral position. He fitted me for a stretching brace, I'm currently wearing it 2 hours off/2 hours on, to gradually work up to six hours at night. I'm really pumped about this because it would be very hard to start walking with one foot on tipytoes. Botox is working very well for me in relieving tight muscles.

I am curious as to what symtoms are treatable by botox. Is it hypertonicity or sensory problems or both?

Hi Matt, The botox treatment I received was primarily to treat the hypertonicity in my left calf area. The doctor injected four (big) needles directly into the muscle. Attached to the needles were small microphones. As the botox reached the tight muscles the machine would make a noise which would continue until the botox was absorbed. I have regained use of my right leg/foot, however when I would try and stand to take steps at the parallel bars, my left calf muscles were so tight my foot would not stay flat on the floor. The botox has actually let the tightness go to such a degree that the skin is now "flabby" at the back of my calf. In real life, not a great thing, but for me, for now, I'm thrilled! This has allowed me to manipilulate my foot and ankle into a neutral position in a brace, and every day it seems to fit into the brace better. The botox, in combination with muscle stim, also improved the circulation, thus my foot is now warmer and normal coloring. As well, there is an improvement in the edema, pretty much back to normal. I'll be having botox injections every three months. Oh, and I had no side effects, the leg was a little sore the first evening.
