Well, today was the day I have been waiting for for a long time, MY FIRST BOTOX TREATMENT. As I know a lot of people are interested in this I will share my experience. My treatment was to my left leg, below the knee, four needles in total, to different muscles, all through my calf muscles. My treatment was emg guided, which I highly recommend. This allows the physiatrist to pinpoint the exact point of nerve disorder. I've done a lot of research and it appears that this method is much more effective with fewer side effects.
Okay, so, was it painful? Well, pain is a relative term, I would rate it a five, while I rate my spinal taps and lumbar punctures were a ten. It is uncomfortable, no doubt about it, but I will definitely do it again in three months. The whole procedure lasted 20 minutes.
My treatment was at 3:30 today, it's now 10:30 and my leg has just been a little sore since the procedure.
Course of action for physio: it takes 24-48 hours for the botox to fully kick in, I am having muscle stim on my legs the next four days, as well as my reg therapy, leg bike and standing frame. Two weeks after the injections to four weeks is the optimal time to make use of the botox, so then we r starting intensive stretching exercises to the lower leg/ankle area, as well as being fitted for a brace to stretch my leg as well.
I am not walking yet, it is hoped this treatment will allow me to put my left foot flat on the floor when i walk, as I cannot presently do this. If the botox works it is something we will be injecting every three months or until i walk.
I'll keep everyone posted with my progress.
