Okay...last July my feet lost their footing on some gravel coming out of work and I ended up with a broken bone in one of them. This July, one of them got caught in a door at work . I just was not paying attention to where they were. The caught foot caused my head to go boing against the door, which knocked my glasses off and made me see stars. So..I have a golf ball sized lump on the side of my forehead. I guess they , the feet, need to get my attention more often. They sure have a great way of reminding me!! Thought this would bring a chuckle to all of you..hugs, Cindy

Yeah I think you are right--just don't let your feet win! It IS a constant battle to always keep your attention on your feet while walking.

Cindy, Funny you should bring up the foot thing while I am sitting here with an ice pack on my foot. I opened up the freezer and an ice block (the kind for lunch boxes) fell out and dropped on my foot. Welllllllllllllll.........immediately the top of my foot developed a huge bump and my foot hurt sooooooooo much! It also kept cramping up, which it loves to do in bed!. I think that it's finally beginning to settle down. It's strange that even though my foot is numb, when I step on something or something falls on it that it is really, really sensitive. I WONDER WHY? Same here, yet different. My feet are not quite trying to kill me. They're simply trying to make me WISH I were dead! I tripped over my (now deceased) dog (no, i didn't kill him) about 18 months ago. Thought I cleared him while he was laying down but my one foot just didn't quite cooperate. BOOM! Down I go. Direct hit to the top of the left leg socket. Bad bone bruise on the outside of the upper leg. Worse though, it caused some damage to a previously repaired sciatic nerve area... I suppose from the impact. It still bothers me today, every day. I have dropped many things, especially heavy jars from the fridge, on top of my feet/toes. Lots of bruises and some swelling. but NO pain. I can't feel my feet. So HaHa! Take that you pesky feet. How ya like me now? Evidently my feet felt like they were losing the one-upmanship and decided to try and even the score. Somehow, someway I managed to bump or bust my big toe against something. I don't know how it happened. I hit it pretty hard somewhere, evidently. I managed to push the outer part of the toenail well into the soft skin. It doesn't hurt a bit but now I have to babysit it to make sure it doesn't get infected. It's easy to ignore/forget since there is no painful reminder it's there. Feet, hard to live w/them, don't want to live w/o them! ;D

I am suffering from the same problems.
I have been trying to “teach” my brain where my feet are using the following therapy drill.
I go into a squash court, hold on the wall as lightly as possible and try tandem walking (i.e. heel to toe), and cross walking (i.e. cross over feet while moving sideways), with my eyes closed.
There is a lot of stumbling, unsteadiness, tripping, and “whoops look out” going on during this drill.
Doing this drill each day seems to improve my positional awareness a bit.

I've definitely had problems with my feet. It results in occasionally missing a step - I think my foot is firmly on the step and it is on the very edge - and off I go!
Fortunately I have not fallen far - one time I was just one step off the landing, so I tumbled into the wall on the landing. Last week I was outside but fortunately with my husband so he was able to stop me from going down - but I wrenched my knee a bit so I was off balance for several days.
The day after my knee-wrenching, I was unlocking my door at work - which is on a hallway in a mall-type setting and the lock is at floor-level. Awkward enough location for a normal person, but that day I totally lost my balance and toppled right over onto the concrete - not a pretty sight! I got away from that with only a bruised elbow and some embarrassment (because of course people saw me...).
And I agree on the whole numbness with pain issue - I can't feel my feet well enough to know where they are (including kicking my husband in bed without being aware of it) - but if I drop something on my foot, I definitely feel it!

Okay you guys this is not fair you have put a jinx on me and I don't need it! haha Well, my foot wasn't hurting and what you know I had to hit my little toe and the toe next to it on the side of the wall this morning. Talking about hurting it did. And Chris is so right you can feel it when you drop something on it or hit it against the wall. I'm sticking to my story though the wall just jump out in front of me and that the end of the story. Have a nice day! ~Linda

Hope your bump goes away soon. Glad you weren't hurt any worse!!!! I find that I have to constantly look down to where my feet are going, or they will cross eachother and down I'll go. I was longeing one of my horses the other day and tripped and fell because I was watching him and not my stupid feet! So, I can relate and I feel for ya!!!
