Hi All,
I just wanted to let you all know that I'll be meetiing a fellow SCT survivor / discussion board member this evening!
Richard Smith, "our" Army soldier who was in Iraq (richard0314 is his sign-on here) is back in the states now. He is doing follow-up MRI and NS visits this week, so he is in the DC area for those appointments. We've corresponded through this board and talked on the phone yesterday and have decided we will meet for dinner this evening. I'm really excited to be meeting one of "us."
I will provide an update after we get together - but I'm really looking forward to meeting a fellow survivor, and to also thank him for his military service!

All,
Richard and I had a great visit. It was so wonderful meeting someone else who understands where I am coming from on so many issues!
What's funny is that we now share the same neurosurgeon! Richard's NS retired from the Army since his last visit to Walter Reed Hospital and he was just assigned to my NS, Dr. Cooper. We also share the same nurse case manager. So we definitely have a lot in common.
Hopefully Richard will get good news tomorrow on his MRI results when he meets with Dr. Cooper.
Another nice thing about today - we also got to know a bit about each other personally - away from this SCT stuff. I think that it's important for us to allow ourselves to be more than just SCT survivors. We certainly all have a unique common bond, but it's good to focus on the other aspects of ourselves as well. I walked away feeling like I have a new friend.
Hopefully Richard will be getting good news at his appt with Dr. Cooper tomorrow.
For those of you who are able to make it to the Conference in July, I would strongly recommend it. I'm sorry that I can't attend due to other previously established plans - - but I can attest to the fact that there's a lot to be said for meeting someone face to face and sharing stories, etc.

Sorry no picture, but we had a great mexican dinner and an even better talk. it is nice to meet people who have the same things in commen. I did see pur DR today who was very nice my MRI was fairly normalit did say something about flatening of the spinal cord but he didn't seem to concerened, so neither am I. we did discuss however the possibility that eventually i would have to have some hardware implanted to stabalize my spine because it common for the spine to naturally curve there and it will cause more pain down the road, but not yet. he was very interested how Chris myself and Col Smith got to know each other and showed a great interest in the site since apparently he has other soldiers with the same problem so i hope we hear from him or others soon. well that it lots of luck everyone. Richard
