An internet friend of mine from the adult ependymoma online support group wanted me to post this question for her. Her ependymoma @ C5 was removed in '95.:
Low blood pressure has been a symptom for me to deal with. I had low blood pressure before my tumor but nothing like afterwards. It is a rarity if the systolic ever is over 100. My neurosurgeon is interested in this but was unaware that it could be a result of the tumor or surgery. I'd like to hear from others here in this group about low blood pressure.

Yesssssssssss!!! Finally someone else has this problem after an SCT. Mine has been low ever since my surgery. The only time it goes high is if I am anxious about something. My hands are always cold, my feet are ice cubes. At one point I was barely breaking the 90's systolic. It's great in the summer because I am no longer a hottie. But it makes me double tired at times. When it got high due to stress, the doctor put me on hypertensive meds. That brought it way too low to the point of my being lightheaded and dizzy. There is not a lot that can be done for low blood pressure except to monitor it. At least that is what my doctor says. He did not seem to feel it was related to my ependymoma or my surgery. I have not found anyone else here with this problem to compare notes with. Maybe someone new will pop up. Welcome to the board, I wish you and your friend well. She is welcome to visit here also. tc & cindy, you both are not alone. Before my surgery my BP was about 124/88, now it usually runs at about 100/80. There have been times that its dipped below 100 systolic, my neurosurgeon told me this is a common phenomenom with spinal cord surgeries and if I ever feel dizzy I should hydrate in order to increase my intravascular volume.

Before my surgeries last fall, I was taking 2 meds for high blood pressure. Post surgery - I took none for about 4 months and then added 1 of the meds back in. For once - - a positive result outcome from the surgery - - one less med from a preexisting condition before surgery!! (Of course we won't consider the multiple increase in meds from the sct...)
