This might be a wierd question. At my sons' graduation yesterday, he took us over to his professors after the ceremony and introduced us. The others in our group stepped forward and extended their hands but the professor had to come to me to shake my hand. When I don't know someone, I would love to go up to the person and introduce myself and offer my hand but I am afraid, because of my balance, that I'll fall into that person. I think that it looks like you're so interested in meeting the person by approaching them first. How does everyone, if there is, handle this? Barb
PS HAPPY MOTHERS DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't be afraid to go up to someone. If you fall into them, apologize and explain that you are an SCT survivor. It's a GREAT ice breaker!

Hey Barb--Don't worry about it! I fall into, on, over, around people all the time! Sometimes I even spill stuff all over them! Now THAT'S an icebreaker! I find it makes a very good first impression. This is a picture of me trying to waddle over to somebody. Jody--get your camera, before I fall over! ......./ :0)--( )==l .......\

Barb, when I was first healing, I would toddle over to someone and extend my hand. I used to get those once-over looks. Not wanting that kind of attention, I started standing where I was and then extending my hand. These days it depends on if I am wobbly that day or not. Since I got better at making light of my duck and jive, I just do what feels right to me. Since, I don't use a cane or walker, if I lose my balance, I just shrug it off. I don't explain it unless the person has some idea about my situation. I guess it's all about doing what you are comfortable with. Cindy
