I too have a myxopapillary ependymoma. I have had 3 surgeries for 4 tumors. 1st surgery was in 2004. It was a 12 hour surgery and they thought they got it all but recommended that I have radiation as extra added insurance as I was 33 at the time. I had 4 year with nothing on my MRI's and then in 2009 a recurrence. Had another surgery for 2 tumors. One at the original site t4/5 and one at s1 which was a drop. Recovered well and then had another recurrence in 2010. Had another surgery and have not recovered well. A year and a half later I am walking with two canes and have either another tumor or cyst in my spine now. I had a baby girl after my radiation when I had the 4 years clear so it is possible to have babies after radiation, but Dr Jallo (my surgeon) said that radiation should be used as a last resort and that it really compromises the cord and makes successive surgeries very difficult. I might not be headed to a wheelchair if my cord wasn't already so damaged from the radiation. My first surgery was done in Canada by a different doctor who was the one who sent me for radiation...I just didn't know to ask enough questions back then. Bethany I am sure your outcome will be great and know that you will do whatever you wish in your life. Just wanted to share my outcome.
