Thank you all for your replies. I had the follow up MRIs today. The other day I had screaming pain in my neck and then numbness on the left side of face, droppy eyelid but then it passed. Neuro said not an emergency but ordered an MRI of brain for today along with MRI of spine already ordered. I am in Boulder, CO but have Kaiser coverage so am some what limited in where I can go and whom I can see for treatment. My neurosurgeon right now is Alan Villavicencio, MD at Boulder Neurosurgery Associates. Any further guidance would be appreciated. I am trying to get in to see Dr. Falci at Craig Hospital here as well as Dr. Lillehei at University Hospital but want to do something soon as the symptoms are getting worse.

Re: your poll
I think most of us think the right answer is: get a second opinion, which wasn't a choice. The decision of whether to have surgery now or later is a decision you have to make with the advice of your neurosurgeon.
Biopsies of spinal tumors are not recommended.
You might want to send a copy of your mri to Dr. Jallo at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He is one of the leading neurosurgeons in the world treating sct's and will give you a second opinion quickly and for free.

Lisa, Hi. Sorry for your news. It is always scary when we get a diagnosis like this. You already have received great info. People on this forum are so honest, educated, and transparent so between all of us you can get excellent information. Second opinions are very important and seeing a Neuro Surgeon who has experience with spinal cord tumors is very impotant. Please keep us infomed.

I had a tumor removed 3 1/2 years ago when i lived in aurora. the doctor was dr. choi out of the sky ridge medical center which is on the south side of town, I-25 & lincoln. He did a good job and has been good to work with if you need a second opinion.
