Lynne, The toothpicks in the putty sound like Chinese torture treatment.haha I also have degenerative arthritis in both hands and have very little strength in my hands. A year prior to finding out about the tumor I was scheduled to have reconstructive surgery on both hands. I cancelled the operation and stared going to IMT (Integrated Manual Therapy) where my daughter in law went. Well I went from having soooo much pain and weakness in my hands where even pulling a sheet up in bed killed me. I would moan all night. I went from that point to none to little pain in only a couple months. I am so thankful I did not have the surgery. I was told getting off gluten reduces pain. I kow it helped me. I don't know if you have an IMT near you but you could google it. I hope the exercises help you. Betty
