If only I could get the neurontin to take CERTAIN memories away, everything would be fine..... I do think it makes me a little more knuckleheaded, but Lyrica made me feel really odd, I can't describe it, depressed and flat. All of the drugs that can help our nerve pain are powerful and work on the central nervous system, so there is a price to be paid. I am trying to decide what I want to do with the Topomax. I was up to 50mg at bedtime and 25mg in the morning (in addition to the Neurontin). I found myself staring into space a lot, plus I was sleeping for an hour and a half after work and hallucinating while I was sleeping. I'm not sure the pain relief was enough to justify all of the side effects. I am waiting for the doctor to call back to tell me if the side effects would eventually subside, obviously I wouldn't continue the drug if I had side effect that severe forever. If it is a phase, I might consider continuing. Or maybe not...

I'm of no help in this conversation. I tried Lyrica for three weeks and it brought back some of the feeling in my left leg, however by doing this it turned the normal buzzing sensation into something that felt like I was being stabbed by 10 thousand needles at one time. So while I could feel my leg better in places I couldn't function with the needle sensations. Since then I have been very very reluctant to try Neurotin (I was on it for a month before my diagnosis with no problems) and I haven't ever heard of using Cymbalta for SCT's. For now I just try to deal with what my leg and side feel like and for the most part I have gotten used to the sensations.
For me it is the back pain that can be debilitating, not the buzzing. Charity

Hi Charity - I think while Cymbalta is primarily used for 'anti-drepression' it also acts on nerve pain......I find it helps a lot - just Neurontin (Gapapentin) didn't take the back pain away as it did in combination w/the Cymbalta - and it does elevate my moods. I am going to check w/my doctor about memory loss w/Gapapentin as lately I am having trouble finding the correct 'word' in conversation. .... Maybe it's just a Senior Moment???

Renee, I have had that word finding problem with Topomax. I used to talk too fast, so it has slowed me down, which isn't a bad thing. I have to think more about what I am saying. With Neurontin, everything I used to know is a little more out of reach in my brain. I find myself saying "I used to know about that....." a lot. Then I have to go look it up on-line, because I just cannot remember. It is very frustrating. The loss of this function happened suddenly since the surgery so I am pretty sure it is the medication (either that or some of my brain leaked out through my spinal cord while it was opened up ).
