I'm interested in knowing if any of you have tried this fascinating drug therapy for severe Neuro type pain post surgery??? I seem to recall one or two members speaking about Prialt with some real experience. Thanks in advance for your input, Ron

I take Topomax and love it. One because I am losing weight on it that I gained from Neurontin and it does not have the side effects. I have not tried the PRIALT.
I know that Bill A. Tried Valium I think it was with something else and that worked for him for awhile.
BTW- I love your signature.. I told that to my wife the other day. I thought it was funny as I was thinking my neuro did the same thing.

I am on day 5 of feeling like crap with this nausea and light headedness, hot and cold feeling and lots of crying. Today I am going off Norco. I already dropped the Amrix. No one knows if I feel like this because of meds, a bug, or delayed concussion from 10 days ago car accident, being rear ended (I doubt that). The only thing my Dr suggested is extra strength tylenol. My question to you is what meds are there that are not narcotic and have no dry mouth symptom. I honestly feel the dry mouth is so bad and I am not drinking nearly anything because of the nausea, that maybe the dry mouth is causing my problem. Who knows. I just want to feel better, and have the pain controlled. I will see how I do on the 500mg of Tylenole today and my PCP just called in a nausea med. The meds you are talking about sound interesting. Are they for pain? Betty

Betty,
Hang in there... I promise things WILL get much better for you given time and healing. My immediate concern for you is based on what you've explained here.... it sounds like it might be symptomatic of a spinal fluid leak at the point of entry upon your dura. If the closing of the dura was not done perfectly and I do mean PERFECTLY you could very well have a small leak. If you develop any other symptoms or these current ones do not resolve it may be within your best interest to seek immediate treatment (an MRI) to have a closer look. It may be difficult for a surgeon to admit any failures, with that being said you may need to be a very very annoying squeaky wheel in order to cover all your bases. I hope you get my vibe.
Also if you were taking any steroids before your procedure (which is the standard of care) the crying spells are quite common. Remember you are for lack of better words 'broken' its OK to feel the way you do. You are in my prayers. Do not give up on you, mind over matter Betty.
Peace, Ron

Hi Ron, Thanks for the post. I have a really excellent, and very conservative Dr thankfully. After my post op this week and seeing my new MRI looking for anything abnormal, all was fine for another 4 months. Hopefully this "thing" won't continue .... I did have steroids pre op and post op in hospital. I had so many symptoms they took it out of IV. My body was messed up with all the meds.

My NS was very clear about explaining the possibilities of long-term neuropathies / deficits. I didn't realize what all of that meant in terms of exactly how I would feel and react on a daily basis, but I can't really blame him. And in spite of it all, I'd do it all again - I wouldn't want to wait for the tumor to cause more severe permanent damage.

Hi Guys, Not to be mean but I think Ron is looking for some help with his neuro pain and not so much on his signature. I threw that in as a caveat because I found it worded just so perfect.
One other thing Ron I found that helped with Neuro Pain is Cymbalta but it was not enough for me to stick with it because of the side effects I was having with it.

I agree - sorry if I changed the subject.
I don't know much about Prialt, but like most it appears to have a lot of side effects.
I've had luck with Lyrica and Nortriptylene - I've had to work through many side effects, and am "cursed" with the weight gain, but this combination has worked well for me.
I think it's in your best interest to explore any / every possible option until you find relief.
Let us know if you try Prialt and if it works!
Chris
