Hi everyone, my father has just been told that he has a giant schwannoma (dumbell tumour) in his sacrum (around 10cm) and in his spinal cord. Symptoms are pain in buttock, bladder and bowel problems. We live in Malaysia and the doctors here are not able to treat it. Was wondering if anyone has had experience with Johns Hopkins (Dr Wolinsky) or Mayo (Dr Peter Rose) as these two names have been recommended to us? Any thoughts appreciated. We are going to be travelling a long way to see the doctor so want to be sure we are seeing the right one Many thanks

Dear Maz1979. I don't have experience with either of these doctors as I'm not from the US. However, Dr Wolinsky has had a mention on a post on this forum - see spinalcordtumor.proboards.com/thread/1863/astrocytoma. I wish your father all the best. I'd be interested to know how he goes.

I recently had surgery for a sacral schwannoma at the S1 region and had surgery with Dr. John Mullan of Neurological Associates in Minneapolis. He does many of these schwannoma surgeries.
